New reports prompt questions about perplexing security decisions after attack

JERUSALEM – As media reports present evidence the U.S. has played a central role in arming Syrian rebels, new questions now emerge about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s involvement in the controversial scheme.

The questions prompt a second look at the perplexing security decisions made by Clinton and other top Obama administration officials the night of the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on American facilities in Benghazi.

One of those key decisions reportedly delayed an investigative FBI team from arriving at the Benghazi site for 24 days. The site was widely reported to have contained classified documents.

WND raised the Thursday of whether Clinton was telling the truth when she claimed in a Senate hearing that she had no information about whether the U.S. mission in Libya was procuring or transferring weapons to Turkey and other Arab countries.

Her claim appears to contradict a New York Times report that the CIA has been aiding Arab governments and Turkey in obtaining and shipping weapons to the Syrian rebels.

The goal of the alleged weapons shipments was to arm the rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Any training or arming of the Syrian rebels would be considered highly controversial. A major issue is the inclusion of jihadists, including al-Qaida, among the ranks of the Free Syrian Army and other Syrian opposition groups

Now a closer reading of two separate reports from the New York Times paints a picture of Clinton as the ring leader of the plan to arm Syrian rebels.

Confirming WND’s exclusive reporting for over a year, the New York Times last week reported that since early 2012, the CIA has been aiding the Arab governments and Turkey in shopping for and transporting weapons to the Syrian rebels.

The reported plan to arm the rebels mirrors a plan that, according to the New York Times, was concocted by Clinton herself.

Last month, the New York Times described Clinton as one of the driving forces advocating a plan to arm the Syrian rebels. At the time, the newspaper quoted White House officials stating they rejected the plan, which was also proposed by then-CIA Director David Petraeus.

A comparison of the Clinton plan to arms the rebels, as first reported by the Times, and the new Times report of American-aided shipments to the rebels since last year makes clear the Clinton plan was apparently put into action.

Last month, the Times reported that the idea of the Clinton plan was to “vet the rebel groups and train fighters, who would be supplied with weapons.”

Last week, the Times reported that since at least November 2012, the U.S. has been helping “the Arab governments shop for weapons, including a large procurement from Croatia, and have vetted rebel commanders and groups to determine who should receive the weapons as they arrive.”

The earlier Times article described Clinton as having instincts that were “often more activist than those of a White House that has kept a tight grip on foreign policy.”

In an administration often faulted for its timidity abroad, “Clinton wanted to lead from the front, not from behind,” Vali R. Nasr, a former State Department adviser on Afghanistan and Pakistan, told the Times.

Benghazi cover up?

Middle Eastern security officials speaking to WND have said U.S.-aided weapons shipments go back more than a year, escalating before the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. facilities in Benghazi.

In fact, the Middle Eastern security officials speaking to WND since last year describe the U.S. mission in Benghazi and nearby CIA annex attacked last September as an intelligence and planning center for U.S. aid to the rebels in the Middle East, particularly those fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The aid, the sources stated, included weapons shipments and was being coordinated with Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Earlier this month, WND reported Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. stated in interview with Fox News that murdered U.S Ambassador Christopher Stevens was in Benghazi to keep weapons caches from falling into the hands of terrorists. Until that point, no official explanation for Stevens deployment to Libya has acknowledged any such activity.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reporting on how the plan for arming the rebels was put into action has prompted major questions about the role Clinton played in the U.S. response to the Benghazi attacks, assaults against the very facilities where the arms-to-rebels scheme was allegedly being coordinated.

National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed to Fox News in November that Clinton herself worked on the immediate U.S. response to Benghazi.

“The most senior people in government worked on this issue from the minute it happened,” he said.

“That includes the secretary of defense, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, secretary of state, national security adviser, et cetera. Additionally, the Deputies Committee – the second in command at the relevant national security agencies – met at least once and more often twice a day to manage the issue.”

One of the key decisions by Clinton’s State Department that has perplexed many security experts was the determination not to deploy an interagency rapid response unit designed to respond to terrorist attacks known as a Foreign Emergency Support Team, or FEST.

FEST teams previously deployed immediately after al-Qaida bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa in 1998 and the USS Cole in 2000. But they were not used for Benghazi, confounding insiders speaking to the news media

Counterterrorism officials told Fox News in November that the FEST teams could have helped the FBI gain access to the site in Benghazi faster. It ultimately took the FBI 24 days.

The site reportedly contained a large volume of classified documents related to the activities of the Benghazi facilities.

Further, during the night of the attack, top counter terror officials felt out of the loop, according to emails shared with both Fox News and CBS News in November.

Counterterrorism sources and internal emails reviewed by CBS News expressed frustration that key responders were ready to deploy but were not called upon to help in the attack.

Besides strangely not deploying FEST, the Counterterrorism Security Group, or CSG, was never asked to meet the night of the attack or in subsequent days, according to two separate counterterrorism officials, as first reported by CBS News.

The CSG is composed of experts on terrorism from across government agencies and makes recommendations to the deputies who assist the president’s Cabinet in formulating a response to crises involving terrorism.

It is likely that the CSG task force, if contacted, would have recommended FEST aid, according to CBS.

CBS reported the lack of coordination with the Counterterrorism Security Group made the response to the Benghazi crisis still more confused.

One official told CBS News the FBI received a call during the attack representing Clinton and requesting agents be deployed. But he and his colleagues explained the call was just a gesture and could not be implemented.

He said his colleagues at the FBI agreed the agents “would not make any difference without security and other enablers to get them in the country and synch their efforts with military and diplomatic efforts to maximize their success.”

Recruiting jihadists

Days after the Benghazi attack, WND broke the story that Ambassador Stevens himself played a central role in recruiting jihadists to fight Assad’s regime in Syria, according to Egyptian and other Middle Eastern security officials.

Stevens served as a key contact with the Saudis to coordinate the recruitment by Saudi Arabia of Islamic fighters from North Africa and Libya. The jihadists were sent to Syria via Turkey to attack Assad’s forces, said the security officials.

The officials said Stevens also worked with the Saudis to send names of potential jihadi recruits to U.S. security organizations for review. Names found to be directly involved in previous attacks against the U.S., including in Iraq and Afghanistan, were ultimately not recruited by the Saudis to fight in Syria, said the officials.

The latest New York Times report has bolstered WND’s reporting, citing air traffic data, interviews with officials in several countries and the accounts of rebel commanders describing how the CIA has been working with Arab governments and Turkey to sharply increase arms shipments to Syrian rebels in recent months.

The Times reported that the weapons airlifts began on a small scale in early 2012 and continued intermittently through last fall, expanding into a steady and much heavier flow late last year, the data shows.

The Times further revealed that from offices at “secret locations,” American intelligence officers have helped the Arab governments shop for weapons, including a large procurement from Croatia. They have vetted rebel commanders and groups to determine who should receive the weapons as they arrive.

The CIA declined to comment to the Times on the shipments or its role in them.

The Times quoted a former American official as saying that David H. Petraeus, the CIA director until November, had been instrumental in helping set up an aviation network to fly in the weapons. The paper said Petraeus had prodded various countries to work together on the plan.

Petraeus did not return multiple emails from the Times asking for comment.

Both WND’s reporting, which first revealed the U.S.-coordinated arms shipments, and the Times reporting starkly contrast with statements from top U.S. officials who have denied aiding the supply of weapons to the rebels.

Rebel training

It’s not the first time WND’s original investigative reporting on U.S. support for the Syrian rebels was later confirmed by reporting in major media outlets. Other WND reporting indicates support for the Syrian rebels that goes beyond supplying arms, painting a larger picture of U.S. involvement in the Middle East revolutions.

A story by the German weekly Der Spiegel earlier this month reporting the U.S. is training Syrian rebels in Jordan was exclusively exposed by WND 13 months ago.

Quoting what it said were training participants and organizers, Der Spiegel reported it was not clear whether the Americans worked for private firms or were with the U.S. Army, but the magazine said some organizers wore uniforms.

The training in Jordan reportedly focused on use of anti-tank weaponry.

The German magazine reported some 200 men received the training over the previous three months amid U.S. plans to train a total of 1,200 members of the Free Syrian Army in two camps in the south and the east of Jordan.

Britain’s Guardian newspaper also reported U.S. trainers were aiding Syrian rebels in Jordan along with British and French instructors.

Reuters reported a spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department declined immediate comment on the Der Spiegel report. The French foreign ministry and Britain’s foreign and defense ministries also would not comment to Reuters.

While Der Spiegel quoted sources discussing training of the rebels in Jordan over the last three months, WND was first to report the training as far back as February 2012.

At the time, WND quoted knowledgeable Egyptian and Arab security officials claimed the U.S., Turkey and Jordan were running a training base for the Syrian rebels in the Jordanian town of Safawi in the country’s northern desert region.

Liberty News Network (LNN) national correspondent and law-enforcement advocate Andy Ramirez called for Congress to investigate the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after sending a message to U.S. Border Patrol agents that can only be described as “chilling,” in which they demand “obedience” from the agents. The Orwellian display on official television screens defined “obedience” as “quickly and cheerfully carrying out the direction of those who are responsible for me.”

An exclusive video report by LNN and Ramirez cites sources inside the agency who have confirmed that this message went out to agents via TV monitors in the San Diego and Tucson sectors last week. A picture of the propaganda was obtained by Ramirez from a source within Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The New American interviewed Ramirez and reported:

“This ‘Obedience’ order just continues a long recent history of intimidation going back to the 2004 ‘gag order’ by then-Chief David Aguilar,” Ramirez told The New American in an interview, referring to a controversial non-disclosure agreement purporting to bar agents from releasing important information to lawmakers and the media. “The primary point of this all is to purge the patrol of experienced agents who refuse to go along to get along.”
Calling for congressional hearings to investigate the controversial “obedience” message, Ramirez said the scheme was frightening. “Cheerfully?!” he exclaimed about the graphic, sounding bewildered. “Responses I’m hearing from sources at the Border Patrol include the words Orwellian, creepy, sickening, craziness, Nazi handbook — and those are just the ones I can actually repeat.”
Ramirez also wondered what happens to Border Patrol agents who do not “cheerfully” engage in “obedience” upon demand, especially if orders included instructions to violate the Constitution, for example. “Do they go to one of the
long-rumored FEMA camps guarded by employees and DHS armored personnel carriers?” he asked. “Perhaps we hear loudspeakers playing ‘Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles’ — something out of Hitler’s Nazi Germany?”
Alternatively, Ramirez speculated half-seriously, there could be an even more chilling fate awaiting those who refuse to carry out unlawful or unconstitutional orders. “Are they now classified as domestic terrorists, in which case a yet-to-be-identified official at the Department of Justice can have them taken out with a drone strike?” he wondered. “As we just heard in recent congressional hearings, that’s pretty much what can now happen;
a drone strike on an individual who is considered a terrorist on U.S. soil.

According to Ramirez, both the Border Patrol and Customs have already engaged in a number of “purges” where agents close to retirement were forced to retire even though they still had room for advancement. “They want employees who are loyal to DHS and CBP, which is why the old BP logos and decals have been pretty much removed off the vehicles,” the LNN correspondent told The New American in an exclusive interview.

obama lying again

“Agencies like CBP, ICE, TSA, and the like were placed under DHS’ roof for command and control purposes,” Ramirez continued. “However the real purpose has been to keep the facts from reaching the public. In point of fact, DHS is a propaganda ministry in its own right, given the blatant misinformation released by top officials. In the wrong hands it could easily act in a way similar to ‘State Security’.”

Ramirez also expressed concern over the government’s willingness to “sacrifice agents as scalps through the Justice Department upon request of the Mexican government.” His concern arose from the prosecution of Border Patrol agent Jesus “Chito” Diaz, Jr., after Mexican officials complained that the agent had allegedly pulled on the handcuffs of a young drug smuggler.

Mexico has been has been trying to influence American policy for a long time. Recently 54,000 Mexicans signed a petition calling for US gun control, GOP lawmaker Ted Poe (R-TX) said that the US is headed towards a “Mexico model” on gun control, and even the Mexican government has made calls for more gun control in the US.

The New American also obtained confirmation that the “obedience” messages were used. In an email to them, Bill Brooks with the CBP Office of Public Affairs stated, “Information Display System slides are meant to communicate important and useful information to personnel. This example falls short of that criteria, and has already been removed.”

“Well apparently CBP has responded to the Obedience slide, but refused to comment on who ordered it, and the other facts I reported for LNN,” Ramirez responded to the CBP statement. “Clearly they’re not denying it.”

This doesn’t sit well with DHS purchasing 7,000 fully automatic weapons and soliciting for billions of rounds of ammunition. What say you?

In the first three months of the year, members of the first family have been on three vacations, averaging a vacation a month. And now it’s being reported that the first daughters are on a spring break vacation in the Bahamas.

WTH here we are under sequestration and they are just flaunting it in the Americans face. Call it as I see it BS!

The Obamas began the new year in Hawaii.“President Obama departed Hawaii this morning for Washington, after spending NINE days vacationing with family and friends in his native state. Here’s a quick look at how he spent his vacation,” ABC reported on January 6, 2013.

“Obama played FIVE rounds of golf with SEVEN different partners, spending roughly THIRTY hours on TWO different courses on Oahu. The president made FIVE early morning trips to the gym at the nearby Marine Base at Kaneohe Bay. The First Family spent TWO afternoons enjoying the beach on the base and went for ONE hike to a local waterfall. The president spent ONE father-daughter afternoon with Malia and Sasha, bowling and going out for shave ice, an annual tradition.”

Then the first lady and their daughters vacationed in Aspen over President’s Day weekend. “First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in Aspen on Friday afternoon and is here with her daughters for a ski vacation,” Aspendailynews.com reported in February. “Few details about her trip were available. Sources said she is staying at the home of Jim and Paula Crown, owners of the Aspen Skiing Co. She is reportedly skiing at Buttermilk today, where the Crowns, of Chicago, own a home on the Tiehack side.”

Related Stories
While the rest of the family was in Colorado, Obama went to Florida for a golf weekend. “It was not his motivation, certainly, but President Obama is honoring his modern predecessors on this Presidents’ Day weekend by doing what many of them liked to do on breaks: chill out in Florida with the guys — including, in his case, one of golf’s most famous guys, Tiger Woods,” the New York Times reported in February.

And now it’s being reported that the first daughters are on Spring Break in the Bahamas. “Sasha and Malia Obama are quietly vacationing at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, Breitbart News has learned,” a report reads.

Again WTH who is with them just Secret Service where’s Mom or Grandmother at? BS again!!!

Of course, there’s no reason to begrudge the first family for enjoying a good vacation. But at a time when the White House is closed to the public, it all might seem a little odd.

Parents face charges and $9,000 fine for taking kids out school as Obama officials prepare to send them back

The Obama administration is arguing in federal court that a homeschooling family from Germany should be deported back to their homeland, despite what they say is religious persecution. The German government prevented Uwe and Hannelore Romeike from teaching their five children at home instead of sending them to government-run schools, fining them and threatening to prosecute them if they don’t obey.

When they took their three oldest children out of school in 2006, police showed up at their house within 24 hours, only leaving after a group of supporters showed up and organized a quick protest.

But their legal troubles were just beginning. Germany began fining the family, ultimately racking up a bill of more than 7,000 Euros ($9,000).

After they fled to the United States in 2010, the Romeike family initially were granted political asylum and found a home in Tennessee. They had a sixth child. But then U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) appealed the asylum decision in 2012.

The federal Board of Immigration Appeals sided with the government despite a 2011 policy that gives the government broad discretion to pursue only high-priority cases.

ICE would not provide details about the case, or its reasons for pursuing the Romeikes.

‘We do not comment on pending litigation,’ ICE public affairs officer Brandon Montgomery told MailOnline.

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike fled Germany with their five children because the government there criminalized home schooling

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike fled Germany with their five children because the government there criminalized home schooling. A sixth child was born after they took up residence and Tennessee and won permanent asylum on human rights grounds. The Obama administration appealed and seeks their deportation back to Germany

The Romeikes teach their five school-age children at home, including computer lessons along with reading, writing, math, history, music and other subjects

The Romeikes teach their five school-age children at home, including computer lessons along with reading, writing, math, history, music and other subjects

The Home School Legal Defense Association sued the US Department of Justice because a judge in that agency’s Executive Office for Immigration Review was responsible for the decision.

A three-judge panel in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case of Romeike v. Holder on April 23.

Michael Farris, that organization’s founding chairman, told MailOnline in a telephone interview that the even if the federal government doesn’t believe home schooling is a human rights issue that qualifies for political asylum, it can still let the family remain in the US and home school their children.

‘The attorney general absolutely has the discretion to let these people stay,’ Farris said of the devoutly Christian family.

‘I really wonder what would’ve happened to the Pilgrims under this administration,’ he said recently on the Fox News Channel.

Christopher Bentley, a Tennessee spokesman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an arm of the Department of Homeland Security, said his agency was involved in the case early on.

‘I can’t talk about any asylum cases in particular,’ he cautioned, ‘but our office would have responsibility for initially determining whether they qualified for asylum in the United States.’

‘We’re the first step in establishing “credible fear,” and then making a determination of whether they qualify for asylum in the United States. They have to claim that their government can’t protect them from persecution because they’re part of a specific group. That’s the basis for any asylum grant.’

White House petition seeks asylum for German home schooling family

‘We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Obama Administration grant full and permanent legal status to Uwe and Hannelore Romeike and their children,’ the petition reads. If it attracts 100,000 signatures by April 18, it will trigger a response from the administration

At the point where the Romeikes were granted asylum, the Department of Homeland Security was off the case. But after the Board of Immigration Review heard the case and overturned the asylum ruling, DHS re-entered the picture, since it’s the agency charged with enforcing immigration judges’ decisions.

Farris has started a petition to pressure the White House to let the family remain in the country. It has attracted more than 21,000 signatures toward a goal of 100,000, which must be reached by April 18 in order to trigger a response from the Obama administration.

‘Every state in the United States of America recognizes the right to homeschool,’ the petition reads, ‘and the U.S. has the world’s largest and most vibrant homeschool community. Regrettably, this family faces deportation in spite of the persecution they will suffer in Germany.’

An estimated 2 million children in the US are home schooled.

But the practice is illegal in Germany. An estimated 200 families teach their own children there anyway, even at the risk of fines, criminal prosecution and, in some cases, the loss of custody of their children.

WTH! is wrong with our country and with Germany Homeschooling is illegal WHAT??? Just WRONG!

Uwe Romeike supervises one of her daughters during a reading lesson in their Tennessee home

Uwe Romeike supervises one of her daughters during a reading lesson in their Tennessee home. The Obama administration seeks their deportation back to Germany, where home schooling is illegal

Germany made school attendance mandatory in 1918. During the Nazi era, that law was made even more restrictive to ensure that young Germans were indoctrinated with Adolph Hitler’s national socialist ideology.

The German Supreme Court has ruled that it wants to ‘counteract the development of religious and philosophically motivated parallel societies,’ Farris explained. ‘And that’s a direct quote.’

‘We want to give them a safe harbor. That’s what asylum is for.’

That court ruled in 2007 that parents who home school their children can have their custody rights limited or eliminated entirely.

German families have sought refuge in both Canada and New Zealand in recent years, citing the same reasons as the Romeikes. Both cases were denied.

The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment. Attorney General Eric Holder could intervene and allow the Romeikes to remain in the country on humanitarian grounds, even if the Obama administration doesn’t believe home schooling parents should qualify for asylum as a matter of principle.

The school day in the Romeike household is a conducted around the kitchen table, with Uwe making the rounds as her children study

The school day in the Romeike household is a conducted around the kitchen table, with Uwe making the rounds as her children study. An advocacy group sued the federal government over their deportation order, and a federal appeals court will hear the case in April

Federal law allows refugees to stay in the United States permanently if they can show they are being persecuted for reasons including their religion or their membership in a ‘particular social group.’

But in its argument against the Romeikes’ asylum, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement called home schoolers too ‘amorphous’ to qualify.

‘United States law has recognized the broad power of the state to compel school attendance and regulate curriculum and teacher certification’ along with the ‘authority to prohibit or regulate homeschooling,’ ICE wrote.

When the Board of Immigration Appeals overturned the judge’s initial grant of asylum, it based its decision on a case where the European Court of Human Rights ruled that ‘the public education laws of Germany do not violate basic human rights.’

A science curriculum is part of the Romeikes' home schooling curriculum, including access to a microscope and laboratory equipment

A science curriculum is part of the Romeikes’ home schooling curriculum, including access to a microscope, laboratory equipment and other things they would have if they attended traditional schools. The German government forbids home schooling, and the US government wants them deported back to their home country

The Home School Legal Defense Association’s argument is that the federal government should not substitute international law for US law.

‘I think we have a really good case,’ Farris said.

He believes there are likely only three possibilities that would explain why the Obama administration is working so hard to deport the Romeike family.

‘It could be that the government is just anti-homeschooling, or anti-religious-freedom,’ Farris said. ‘Or perhaps they have some deal with the German government.’

‘I don’t know which it is, but none of the options is pretty.’

Post image for 18 Reasons Why Doctors And Lawyers Homeschool Their Children

I’m going public today with a secret I’ve kept for a year—my husband and I are homeschooling our children.  I never dreamed we would become homeschoolers.  I wanted my kids integrated and socialized.  I wanted their eyes opened to the realities of the world.  I wanted the values we taught at home put to the test in the real world.  But necessity drove me to consider homeschooling for my 2nd and 4th graders, and so I timidly attended a home school parent meeting last spring.  Surprisingly it was full of doctors, lawyers, former public school teachers, and other professionals.  These were not the stay-at-home-moms in long skirts that I expected.   The face of homeschooling is changing.  We are not all religious extremists or farmers, and our kids are not all overachieving academic nerds without social skills.

HomeSchool

An estimated 2.04 million k12 children are home educated in the United States, a 75% increase since 1999.   Although currently only 4% of all K12 students nationwide are educated at home, experts are predicting an exponential boom in homeschooling in the next 5-10 years.  Most states even provide free online public schools, known as virtual schools or virtual homeschools for K12 students.  An information site called College@Home provides some useful information.

For a year I was afraid to tell any of my work colleagues that we were homeschooling.  People would stereotype me as a right-wing kook.  My boss might assume that I couldn’t possibly be committed to an academic medical career.  I wasn’t sure I could homeschool my kids well.  I feared the whole year would be an academic failure and emotional nightmare.  I was so unsure about this homeschooling experiment that I even kept a spare school uniform in case I had to send my kids back to school at the last moment.

This week our kids are finishing their standardized curriculum and we will spend the rest of the school year doing enrichment activities.  Alas, I think we can call this success.

We’ve had our kids in both public and private schools, but homeschooling has turned out to be the best option for our family.  Here are 18 reasons why we have joined America’s fastest growing educational trend:

1)      We spend less time homeschooling each day than we used to spend driving.  With four kids in four locations last year (including a newborn at home), school drop-off and pick-up took four hours, on a good day.  We’d get home at about 4:30 and still have homework, music practice, sports, chores, dinner and bath to fit into the 4 hours before bed.  Now we spend about four hours per day homeschooling, instead of four hours in the car.

2)      We can’t afford private education.  Even on a doctor’s salary, private education has become unaffordable, especially for larger families.  Which choice would you make: save for college, save for retirement, or pay private school tuition?  Few families can afford for all three, and most can only afford one.  As educational debts loom larger for each successive generation, this financial crunch will only get worse.

3)      Our kids are excelling academically as homeschoolers.  Homeschooling allows us to enrich our children’s strengths and supplement their weaknesses. The kids’ education moves as fast or as slow as required for that particular subject area.  They are not pigeon-holed and tracked as gifted, average, or special needs.

4)      Homeschooling is not hard, and it’s fun!  We bought a “box curriculum” from a major homeschool vendor, and all the books and the day-by-day curriculum checklist came in the mail.  We have a lot of fun supplementing material through YouTube and online educational sites like Dreambox, Khan Academy, and others.  Our kids do about half of their math online.

5)      Use whatever public school services you like.  Need speech therapy, the gifted program, or remedial academics?  Homeschooled kids are still eligible for all these services.  Some homeschoolers come into public school daily for “specials” like art, music, PE, or the school play.  Your kids can even join high school sports teams once they are old enough.  Our kids are still in sports and scouts sponsored by their old schools.

6)      I like parenting more, by far.  As a mom of school-aged kids, I felt like my role as parent had been diminished to mini-van driver, schedule-keeper, cook and disciplinarian.  And there was no mercy from the schools– six minutes late for pickup and they’d be calling my husband at work, unpaid 5 cent library fine and they’d withhold my child’s report card.  Every day I’d unpack a pile of crinkled notice papers from three backpacks and hope that I didn’t miss the next permission slip.  I was not born, raised and educated to spend my days like this.  Now, I love being a mom.

7)      Our family spends our best hours of each day together.  We were giving away our kids during their best hours, when they were rested and happy, and getting them back when they were tired, grumpy and hungry.  I dreaded each evening, when the fighting and screaming never seemed to end, and my job was to push them through homework, extracurriculars, and music practice.  Now, our kids have happy time together each day.  At recess time, the kids are actually excited about playing with each other!

8)      We yell at our kids less.  Homeschooling forces us as parents to maintain a loving authority in the household.  We stopped spanking our kids.  You can’t get your kids to write essays or complete a large set of math problems if you don’t have their respect and obedience.  Spanking and corporal punishment establish fear, not effective, loving obedience.

9)      Our kids have time for creative play and unique interests.  Once my kids entered school, they seemed to stop making up their own creative play together.  They didn’t have time for creative play during their busy evenings.  Now they build forts and crazy contraptions, play dance parties, and pursue their own unique interests.  My eight-year-old has taken up computer programming and taught himself how to play the organ.  My six-year-old is learning to cook.

10)   We are able to work on the kids’ behavior and work ethic throughout the day.  My son’s poor work effort at school was nearly impossible to address.  The teachers didn’t have time to make my son repeat work they felt was average quality.  We wouldn’t see the work until days after it was completed.  Finally, we’ve been able to push him to his full potential.

11)   Get rid of bad habits, fast.  Dirty clothes dropped on the floor?  They used to stay there all day.  Now there is no recess until they are cleaned up.  I never really had the time to implement most behavioral techniques when my kids were in school.  I knew what I needed to do to get my kindergartner to dress herself, but it was easier to dress her myself then deal with the school complaining that she was improperly dressed or late.  Now, if she takes too long to get dressed, she misses out on free play time.

12)   Be the master of your own schedule.  Homeschooling provides a great deal of family flexibility, which is a tremendous asset for our busy family. For example, we save a lot of money on plane tickets because we have the flexibility to fly almost any day of the week.  Zoos, children’s museums, libraries, parks, etc., are far less busy on weekdays as they are on weekends.  Scheduling anything is eons easier—doctor’s appointments, piano lessons, vacations, etc.

13)   Younger children learn from older siblings.  For larger families like ours, even toddlers are learning during school time. Our four year old sits at the same table during school time as our six and eight year old.  He wants to do his worksheet, too.  Some of that math and phonics work rubs off on him, and he’s learning how to read.  When chore time comes, he asks, “What are my chores?” And our one-year-old recently tried to clean a toilet.

14)   Save money.  Committing to homeschooling requires at least one parent at home for most of each day.  Although you may lose an income with this commitment, you save (a lot) of money since younger children don’t need daycare and older children don’t need private school.  We also save a lot of money on gas now that we drive less.  Many homeschooling parents still work part-time.  We pull off homeschooling because I work nights and my husband works part-time from home as an independent IT developer.  I know many families homeschooling on family incomes of 40-60K.

Homeschoolers save tax payers money, too.  According to The National Home Education Research Institute, homeschoolers saved the taxpayers $16 billion in 2006.

15)   Teach your kids practical life skills.  Homeschooled kids learn parenting skills, cooking, budgeting, home maintenance, and time management every day.  Time management skills are learned out of necessity.  Our kids have to keep their own schedules and budget their own time.  If they waste time, they have less time for play and their own special interests.  We use old smart phones with alarms to help teach time management.  Our kids help with younger siblings while under our direct supervision.  What better way is there to learn parenting?  I learned to write a fake grocery budget once as a home economics exercise.  My kids write real grocery budgets and help me shop.

16)   Better socialization, less unhealthy peer pressure and bullying.  Our kids no longer beg for video games we don’t want them to have or clothes we don’t like, or junky snacks they saw at school.  One of our children struggled socially in school, and his schoolmates were ruthlessly mean.  Despite a school anti-bullying policy and our best efforts to work with the teacher, nothing changed.  Last year he played alone on the playground everyday.  Now he’s organizing playground games at our homeschool co-op, and he’s smiling again.  No one has ever said an unkind word to him at our co-op, because every child is there with his or her own parent.  Our kids have plenty of time with friends, but without  the unhealthy peer pressure and bullying.

Research continues to show that homeschooled kids do well socially.  Our kids have no shortage of time with friends—each week they attend homeschool co-op, scouts, sports, dance, choir, piano, religious education and have plenty of time to play with neighborhood friends.  Add in the birthday parties and homeschool field trips, and we find ourselves having to decline activities so that we can get our homeschooling done!

17)   Sleep! A research study by National Jewish Health released in March, 2013 showed that homeschooled students get more sleep than their peers who attend school.  The result may be that homeschooled kids are better prepared to learn.  Parents get more sleep, too!  Now we don’t have to get up early to meet a bus schedule, prepare sack lunches, etc.  Our mornings are great times together to snuggle with our children and talk about our plans for the day.  No more “Hurry up and get your shoes on or you’ll be late for school!”

18)   Teach kids your own values.  According to the national center for education statistics, 36% of homeschooling families were primarily motivated by a desire to provide religious or moral instruction.  Our family is not part of this 36%– we never objected to any values taught in either our public or private schools.  Nevertheless, we’ve really enjoyed building our own traditions and living out our family values in a way that wasn’t possible before homeschooling.  For example we make Halloween a little holiday without too much decadence, but we spend an entire week celebrating Easter.  When our kids were in school, the Halloween parties went on for 2 weeks and they had a Halloween vacation from school.  In contrast, they didn’t get any time off for Easter, and there were no Easter celebrations or even decorations at school.

Homeschooling isn’t right for every family or every child.  I can’t even predict what the future holds for our family—will we continue homeschooling through high school?  I don’t know.  But for now, we’ve found a way for our family to be very happy growing and learning together.

Update 27-March-13

Thank you to the more than 200,000 of you that have taken the time to read my thoughts on homeschooling.

Many people have asked me how we do it, how my husband and I both hold down jobs and homeschool our kids at the same time.

Every homeschooling family has their own unique time management plan to balance employment, schooling, household needs, and rest time.  For our family, this has been a work in progress over several years.

Four years ago, after I had my third child, I started working all night shifts as a hospital-based pediatrician.   This schedule allowed me to be home with my babies and available for school pick-up for my older children.  When we were expecting our fourth child, my husband resigned his full-time job a large company in St. Louis so that he could start his own business as an independent IT developer, and so that he could be more committed to our family life.  Once we had the flexibility of my husband’s self-employment, homeschooling became a real option for our family.

We complete our core homeschool curriculum on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On Wednesdays our kids attend a home-school co-op, and on Fridays we take field trips, do special activities, and complete any catch-up work.

I sleep (with earplugs!) the mornings after my overnight shifts.  My husband does the homeschooling on the mornings when I am sleeping.  On the mornings when I am awake, I do the teaching.  My husband and I split the teaching about 50/50.  We try to make sure that at any given time one parent is employed and one is teaching/parenting/running the home.  The baby usually takes a nap in the afternoon while my older kids do independent reading and online math, and so we can usually fit in 1-2 hours of personal time or work then.  Any employment work or housework that is left we do after the kids go to bed.

Now that we homeschool, everything has become a team effort in our house.  Both my husband and I teach, do housework, and make money.  Everyone does chores.  Walking in each other’s shoes each day has made us more compassionate towards each other.  We are less likely to criticize each other when things don’t go right, and we’ve learned to be better communicators.  This is, perhaps, my favorite part of homeschooling, that our family is happier together.

Newly elected state chief justice has expressed doubt about qualification

judge-roy-moore

Many cases challenging Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility have come and gone, but now an appeal has been filed with a state Supreme Court led by a newly elected chief justice who has expressed doubt about Obama’s qualification for office.

Roy Moore was elected chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court last November, a decade after he defied a federal order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the state Supreme Court building.

Now, 2012 Constitution Party presidential nominee Virgil Goode and Alabama Republican Party leader Hugh McInnish are asking the state’s highest court to force Secretary of State Beth Chapman to verify that all candidates on the state’s 2012 ballot were eligible to serve.

Attorney Larry Klayman, founder of the Washington, D.C.-watch dog Judicial Watch and now head of Freedom Watch, filed the appeal Tuesday with the Alabama Supreme Court, asking for oral arguments.

“We are hopeful that Chief Justice Moore and the rest of the jurists on the Alabama Supreme Court will follow the law,” Klayman told WND.

Klayman says he and his team “have great respect for Chief Justice Moore and his integrity and legal acumen.”

“He is one courageous and brave man. There are few in this country.”

The case is an appeal of a dismissal by the Montgomery Circuit Court.

In his brief, Klayman says “credible evidence and information from an official source” was presented to Chapman before the election indicating Obama might not have been qualified for Oval Office.

The complaint argues Chapman failed her constitutional duty as secretary of state to verify the eligibility of candidates.

Moore is on the record questioning Obama’s eligibility.

In an interview with WND in 2010, he defended Lt. Col Terrence Lakin’s demand that President Obama prove his eligibility as commander in chief as a condition of obeying deployment orders.

Moore said he had seen no convincing evidence that Obama is a natural-born citizen and much evidence that suggests he is not.

Moore said Lakin “not only has a right to follow his personal convictions under the Constitution, he has a duty.”

“And if the authority running the efforts of the war is not a citizen in violation of the Constitution, the order is unlawful,” he said.

‘Affirmative duty’

Klayman asserts the secretary of state “has an affirmative duty that stems from her oath of office under both the U.S. and Alabama Constitutions, to protect the citizens from fraud and other misconduct by candidates.”

As a result of her refusal to investigate the qualifications of candidates for president, Klayman says, “a person believed to be unqualified for that office has been elected.”

The remedy, he said, “is to require each candidate to do what every teenager is required to do to get a learner’s permit.”

“It is to produce a bona fide birth certificate … and the Secretary of State is the official to cause that to happen.”

McInnish is a member of the Madison County Republican Executive Committee and also sits on the state Republican Executive Committee.

Citing the investigation of Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse, Klayman says Chapman “gained knowledge from an official source that there was probable cause to believe the Barack Obama had not met a certifying qualification.”

The appeal brief notes McInnish visited the secretary of state’s office Feb. 2, 2012, and spoke with the deputy secretary of state, Emily Thompson, in Chapman’s absence.

Thompson, the brief says, “represented that her office would not investigate the legitimacy of any candidate, thus violating her duties under the U.S. and Alabama Constitutions.”

As WND reported, Arpaio and his team concluded that Obama’s long-form birth certificate was a computer-generated forgery.

Klayman, in a previous brief, argued the secretary of state, “having the power to certify candidates, can surely de-certify – in effect disqualify – them if they are found to be ineligible.”

In his new appeal, Klayman points, as an example, to California Secretary of State Debra Bowen’s rejection of Petra Lindsay on the 2012 California primary ballot because she was 27 years old. The U.S. Constitution requires the president to be at least 35.

In his conclusion, Klayman argues the fact that the election is over does not make the case moot.

“It would be paradoxical beyond measure if the real and grave question of the legitimacy of the de facto President, a question which lies at the very heart of our American Constitutional Government, were left unresolved for want of the simplest of documents, a birth certificate.”

If either a bona fide birth certificate is produced or an admission is made that it does not exist, he writes, “this most important of legal questions will have been answered, the purity of Alabama’s ballot maintained, and the anxiety of Alabama citizens stilled.”

If the issue is not resolved, he said, citizens will be left with the impression “that their government was dysfunctional and has ignored their real concerns.

‘Certain documentation’

In an earlier step in the case one year ago, before a panel of Alabama Supreme Court justices, one justice raised doubts about Obama’s eligibility.

The justices denied a petition filed by McInnish seeking to require Obama submit an original birth certificate before he could be placed on the state’s 2012 ballot.

Justice Tom Parker filed a special, unpublished concurrence in the case arguing that McInnish’s charges of “forgery” were legitimate cause for concern.

“Mclnnish has attached certain documentation to his mandamus petition, which, if presented to the appropriate forum as part of a proper evidentiary presentation, would raise serious questions about the authenticity of both the ‘short form’ and the ‘long form’ birth certificates of President Barack Hussein Obama that have been made public.”

The “certain documentation” is the findings of Arpaio’s investigation.

“The Alabama Constitution implies that this court is without jurisdiction over McInnish’s original petition,” Parker explained. “The office of the secretary of state of Alabama is not a ‘court of inferior jurisdiction’ that this court may control through the issuance of a writ in response to a petition.”

Now, however, the case is coming from a lower court.

‘Obama violated the Constitution’

Moore told WND in an interview after his election last November that the country must return to a standard in which the rule of law prevails over politics.

He said Obama violated the Constitution when he bombed Libya, because the Constitution stipulates only Congress shall declare war.

“No president has the power to violate constitutional restraints of power,” Moore said.

“The Constitution is the rule of law, and [my job is] to uphold the rule of law.”

Government’s job, Moore said, is to secure and protect those rights.

“There is little regard for the Constitution in the courts today, even the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Outrageous as it may seem to some, rather than respond appropriately to the criticism and back off from the extravagant vacations, Michelle and Barry chose instead to thumb their noses at America by flying Sasha and Malia from the Atlantis in the Bahamas to Sun Valley, Idaho to top off Easter week with a little skiing.

For those who are shocked, here’s the bottom line: Nothing anyone does or says is going to change who these people are.  It is now crystal clear that no amount of public disapproval or disparagement will deter them from spending our money to wantonly indulge themselves as often as they please.   After all, in their minds, they’re worth it.

What is also clearly obvious is that if by chance there’s an uptick in criticism of the first family’s endless excesses, their response will be an even more defiant display of conspicuous consumption while the liberal media does their part by accusing critics of racism.

In less than a week, spring break has transported two little girls to the sun and surf of the Bahamas and then scooped them up and ferried them to the cold, powdery Idaho snow! Ah, life is good.

Would somebody please refresh my memory?  Didn’t Obama just blame the cancellation of White House tours on Secret Service furloughs?  Then, after making schoolchildren cry, he managed to rustle up a kiddie security detail to stand around in Atlantis in swim trunks and then trail Sasha and Malia down the bunny slope in Sun Valley.

And wasn’t it just a few weeks ago that these girls and their mother shut down Aspen, Colorado? How many otherwise-furloughed Secret Service personnel were assigned to that little excursion?  Apparently, Mrs. Obama, and to a lesser extent her husband, must fancy themselves full-fledged ‘celebrities.’  After all, “Sun Valley is known to be a getaway for celebrity.” The irony is that it’s America that needs to get away from the Obamas.

Nonetheless, thanks to another blank check compliments of the American taxpayer, “The Sun Valley Ski Patrol confirm[ed] the girls were enjoying the wonders of the mountain.” To rub the already appalled public’s noses in it even more, allegedly while in Sun Valley Sasha and Malia are bunking at Thunder Spring, which boasts being “A premier resort community for the select few.”

For the holiday, the Sun Valley blog encourages guests to “Race, Skim and Slide into Easter Weekend… From the slopes…to lawns strewn with brightly colored eggs!” Isn’t it peculiar that the daughters of a president who quotes Scripture at prayer breakfasts and memorials, are allowed to observe the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from a ski lift?

In all seriousness, travelogues and “Rail Jams” aside, these young girls are unknowing casualties of public-servant parents who obviously feel they owe no explanation for their financially frolicsome lifestyle.  The ‘me first’ attitude they exhibit lacks accountability – and shame, for that matter – for the excesses they seem to flaunt before a struggling nation.

Moreover, when it was made public that Sasha and Malia had departed the Caribbean and were spending the second half of spring break in Idaho, just as they did last March when Malia was in Mexico, the White House made sure their Internet scrubber was not furloughed.  Every website article that reported the first daughters’ location was obliterated from the Web.

To explain that decision, Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the first lady, released the following statement:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

Well BS they keep putting them out in the spotlight they are fair game they are just corrupt as their parents!

Actually, Ms. Schake, the news here isn’t about Sasha and Malia sunning or skiing or where they’re doing it, it’s about their imprudent parents who ask news outlets to refrain from reporting while they refrain from nothing.

The Obamas are of the persuasion that, without America’s permission, they can pilfer as much cash out of the public coffers as they want. Then, when the people whose money they’ve misused demand an explanation, the Internet gets scrubbed and questions are ignored.

Furthermore, if privacy is the goal, maybe Michelle should think twice before jetting her daughters from Club Crush to River Run in less than seven days.  As for their safety and security, not to worry – both girls are plenty safe because the throng of Secret Service agents who would normally be overseeing sizeable groups of schoolchildren touring the White House are spending the week playing nanny.

5. The H.L. Hunley [Civil War]

On February 17, 1864, the Union ship USS Housatonic was attacked and sunk by an unseen enemy from below. The attacker? The H.L. Hunley – the first-ever submarine to successfully attack an enemy warship. Built for the Confederate Army in 1863, she packed one torpedo, carried a crew of seven, and could be submerged for short periods of time. Unfortunately, despite the success of the mission – with no confederate casualties, a sunken Union warship and five dead Yankees – there was a major downside to the H.L Hunley: It was way more dangerous to be in the submarine than it was to be attacked by it.
During her first test run in 1863, five of the seven crewmembers drowned. The Hunley was hauled out of the water, fixed up and then manned with eight more guys: This time, all of them drowned. Finally, following the successful attack on the USS Housatonic, the H.L. Hunley sank a third and final time, killing another eight crew members. It’s very clear that there were still some design flaws in the earliest true submarine – perhaps the hatches were faulty, or the ship couldn’t surface quickly enough, or maybe it was that ill-conceived screen door they put on it. Whatever her shortcomings, it’s important to note that the H.L. Hunley was a huge achievement in military technology and would pave the way for all future submarines.

4. The SM U-9 [WWI]

In WWI (that was the one without Hitler), the British employed three ships with the duty of protecting the English Channel – the

HMS Aboukir, the HMS Hogue, and the HMS Cressy. Despite numerous requests from their respective crews to find another name for the mission, the fleet was jokingly called the “Live Bait Squadron.” Tragically, on September 22, 1914, they more than lived up to their name when all three ships were sunk by the most powerful submarine the Germans had: the SM U-9.
The U-9 is the submarine that put subs on the map, militarily speaking: Up until this event, they were, like tanks before them, considered more of a novelty than a weapon (it didn’t help that so many of them had sunk and killed their whole crews that nobody wanted to use them). The SM U-9 changed everything: Like other German U-boats, she had a crew of 25 men and could stay underwater for about 12 to 16 hours. She could carry six torpedoes and shoot two at a time, but what was special about the U-9 was that she was the first submarine with the ability to reload underwater – a talent the Germans made great use of, sinking all three of those British ships in under an hour. Following the battle, the U-9 and its crew were awarded the Iron Cross, while the British decided to reconsider the other fleet names they’d been using, like “Disaster Waiting To Happen” and “Big, Slow, Thoroughly Moist Target.”

3. The I-201 [WWII]

The Japanese Submarine I-201 was the most ridiculously badass submarine type of WWII (the one with Hitler). They were so advanced that when the Americans discovered them at the end of WWII, they sunk them just so the Soviets wouldn’t have the technology (that’s what they said, anyway. For all we know, some drunk Navy guys sunk them by accident and said they did it because of the Commies). Anyway, this massive ship was three times the size of a modern submarine, carried a crew of 144 and could stay underwater for a month without coming up. She could hold 10 torpedoes and featured the first retractable deck guns on a sub. And believe it or not, she was intended to be used for aerial attacks: The Japanese actually planned to have planes docked on the water over this behemoth to launch attacks from. Because the first thing you think when designing an aircraft carrier is whether or not it can submerge, obviously.
The amazing thing is, that wasn’t even the most ridiculous plan the Japanese had for the I-201. No, that award goes to the plot to carry big cans of plague-infested rats to throw at the United States and kill its citizens with disease. Luckily, they never got the chance to carry out this plan (we dropped a couple things slightly scarier than rats on them first), although this does raise the question of whether or not the Japanese military had ever actually seen a New York City subway. One more incredible fact about this vessel: She was covered in a layer of rubber, making her basically undetectable by radar. Which has got to mean that using a condom makes you invisible to radar. It has to, right?

2. The USS Nautilus [Cold War]

The first nuclear-powered submarine, the Nautilus was built in 1954 and named after the ship from the Jules Verne novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. Because she used nuclear power, she could do things that no other sub could up until that time, including staying submerged for almost 100 days and traveling at higher speeds than any sub before her. She featured six torpedo tubes and carried a crew of around 110 men.
All in all, the USS Nautilus was a stunning achievement that set many naval records. The sub’s technology easily overcame all of the anti-submarine tactics used during WWII, rendering radar all but useless with her speed, while the sheer volume of her armaments would overpower any other underwater vessel. After years of showing her off, the US Navy got bored and decided to send the submarine to the North Pole, which was just about the most expensive way ever conceived of to disprove the existence of Santa Claus. The mission was a huge success, sufficiently spooking the Soviet Union, although its operation name may have undermined its intended show of strength: Rather than giving the mission a cool name like “Operation Icebreaker” or “Operation Polar Bear Extinction”, instead they went with “Operation Sunrise”, which is just about the wussiest name they could have chosen.

1. The HMS Ambush [Present Day]

In 2012, the British Royal Navy launched the most badass submarine ever built, the HMS Ambush. Aside from the cool name, the Ambush has countless awesome features that make her just about the deadliest thing in the water (and that’s including the plane-eating shark from Jaws 4). Carrying a crew of 98 and able to cruise up to 500 miles a day, she’s equipped with dozens of cruise missiles, with which she’s capable of hitting targets 1,200 miles away. She can also detect other ships all the way on the other side of the ocean, while the nuclear reactor that she runs on is so powerful, the ship could run continuously for 25 years!
The only problem is, the British don’t really have any good wars going on right now (at least, not one where this beast would come in useful). So rather than kill people and sink ships like God intended, the Ambush is currently running sea trials to test just how long she can stay submerged for. That sounds like a good use of taxpayer money, right?

The 30 wounded denied the Purple Heart have been buried in the same gaping hole as the hidden Benghazi survivors

A polluting-the-culture President Barack Hussein Obama, who has trademarked the American presidency as one dominated by golfing and holidaying, continues down the destructive path of gutting the American military.

While the mainstream media will show the simpering Obamas during an ‘Easter Egg’ roll featuring lessons in a White House ‘Yoga Garden’ this year,  Obama has laid a deceit-laden egg on the military in time for Easter:

“Pentagon says survivors of the Fort Hood attack should not be eligible for the Purple Heart, arguing it would adversely affect the trial of Maj. Nidal Hasan by labeling the attack terrorism, a claim an attorney for the families called an “utter outrage”. (Fox News, March 30, 2013).

Americans waiting for the brutal kick that usually comes from the Commander in Chief during every national holiday,  just got it through the country’s most precious resource next to its children.  (The nation’s children having been kidnapped by Obama’s Common Core is another story).

Living under an administration too cowardly and sissified to identify terrorism as terrorism, Americans will also now see an end to military funeral honors for vets to cut costs from a president so holiday crazed, his daughters have been Secret-Service babysat during two holidays in one week.

Nowhere does the hypocrisy of the Obamas shine more brightly than it does on the military.

It was only last month when Michelle Obama used the military as Oscar props, some called “human wallpaper” on Oscar night.

Before a television viewing audience estimated somewhere in the hundreds of millions, Obama made no mention of the group of young military surrounding her as she addressed Hollywood’s most influential films this year.  Critics slammed the appearance, saying she used the military personnel as “props”.

“So…today you young men and women of the US military are to stand looking interested whilst Michelle Obama presents Best Picture #Ofcourse!” one user posted on Twitter.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin tweeted a similar sentiment: “Why was Michelle O at the Oscars and why did she use service personnel as props but not thank the military?”

Indeed, in her brief speech about the best picture award, Obama failed to make mention of the men and women standing behind her, leaving many wondering what they were doing there.

There were to be no shame or apologies forthcoming.

“It was a thrill to announce the #Oscars 2013 best picture winner from the @WhiteHouse! Congratulations Argo! –mo,” she wrote early Monday morning.

An academy award is what the Obamas should be given for their ongoing blatant hypocrisy when it comes to the U.S. military.

Thirteen people were killed by the administration-protected, “allahu Akbar”-shouting Maj. Nidal Hassan, and 30 wounded at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009.

Hassan still not brought to justice some three years later, whose court date has been pushed back while he hid behind a beard,  and plays musical chairs with lawyers, has had his feelings spared while Purple Hearts are held back from the wounded on the basis it would adversely affect his trial by labeling the Fort Hood attack as terrorism?

God forbid we hurt this scum of the earth feelings that  killed our troops , where they should have been comfortable and not expecting to be shot by some nut job in the same uniform!

The 30 wounded denied the Purple Heart have been buried in the same gaping hole as the hidden Benghazi survivors.

Meanwhile, thank God that medals for courage don’t follow the same trajectory as Nobel Peace Prizes.

(Reuters) – North Korea said on Saturday it was entering a “state of war” with South Korea, but Seoul and its ally the United States played down the statement as tough talk.

Pyongyang also threatened to close a border industrial zone, the last remaining example of inter-Korean cooperation which gives the impoverished North access to $2 billion in trade a year.

The United States said it took Pyongyang’s threats seriously but cautioned that the North had a history of bellicose rhetoric. Russia, another a permanent U.N. Security Council member, urged all sides to show restraint.

Tensions have been high since the North’s new young leader Kim Jong-un ordered a third nuclear weapons test in February, breaching U.N. sanctions and ignoring warnings from North Korea’s sole major ally,China, not to do so.

“From this time on, the North-South relations will be entering the state of war and all issues raised between the North and the South will be handled accordingly,” a statement carried by the North’s official KCNA news agency said.

KCNA said the statement was issued jointly by the North’s government, ruling party and other organizations.

The Seoul government said there was nothing in the North’s latest statement to cause particular alarm.

“North Korea’s statement today … is not a new threat but is the continuation of provocative threats,” the South’s Unification Ministry, which handles political ties with the North, said in a statement.

On Friday, Kim signed an order putting the North’s missile units on standby to attack U.S. military bases in South Korea and the Pacific, after the United States flew two nuclear-capable stealth bombers over the Korean peninsula in a rare show of force.

U.S. officials described the flight as a diplomatic sortie aimed at reassuring allies South Korea and Japan, and at trying to nudge Pyongyang back to nuclear talks, though there was no guarantee Kim Jong-un would get the message as intended.

The two Koreas have been technically in a state of war since a truce that ended their 1950-53 conflict. Despite its threats, few people see any indication Pyongyang will risk a near-certain defeat by re-starting full-scale war.

There was no sign of unusual activity in the North’s military to suggest an imminent aggression, a South Korean defense ministry official said.

CALLS FOR RESTRAINT

White House National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said North Korea’s announcement followed a “familiar pattern” of rhetoric [ID:nL2N0CM05W].

Russia, which has often balanced criticism of North Korea, a Soviet-era client state, with calls on the United States and South Korea to refrain from belligerent actions, said a recurrence of war was unacceptable.

“We hope that all parties will exercise maximum responsibility and restraint and no-one will cross the point of no return,” Grigory Logvinov, a senior Russian Foreign Ministry official, told Interfax news agency.

France said it was deeply worried about the situation on the Korean peninsula while NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow said the alliance hoped “that this is more posturing than a prelude to any armed hostilities.”

China has repeatedly called for restraint on the peninsula.

The North has been threatening to attack the South and U.S. military bases almost on a daily basis since the beginning of March, when U.S. and South Korean militaries started routine drills that have been conducted for decades without incident.

Many in the South have regarded the North’s willingness to keep open the Kaesong industrial zone, located just a few miles (km) north of the heavily-militarized border, as a sign that Pyongyang will not risk losing a lucrative source of foreign currency by mounting a real act of aggression.

The Kaesong zone is a vital source of hard currency for the North and hundreds of South Korean workers and vehicles enter daily after crossing the armed border.

“If the puppet traitor group continues to mention the Kaesong industrial zone is being kept operating and damages our dignity, it will be mercilessly shut off and shut down,” KCNA quoted an agency that operates Kaesong as saying in a statement.

Closure could also trap hundreds of South Korean workers and managers of the more than 100 firms that have factories there.

The North has previously suspended operations at the factory zone at the height of political tensions with the South, only to let it resume operations later.

North Korea has canceled an armistice agreement with the United States that ended the Korean War and cut all hotlines with U.S. forces, the United Nations and South Korea.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Reducing sulfur in gasoline and tightening emissions standards on cars beginning in 2017, as the Obama administration is proposing, would come with costs as well as rewards. The cost at the pump for cleaner air across the country could be less than a penny or as high as 9 cents a gallon, depending on who is providing the estimate.

An oil industry study says the proposed rule being unveiled Friday by the administration could increase gasoline prices by 6 cents to 9 cents a gallon. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates an increase of less than a penny and an additional $130 to the cost of a vehicle in 2025.

The EPA is quick to add that the change aimed at cleaning up gasoline and automobile emissions would yield billions of dollars in health benefits by 2030 by slashing smog- and soot-forming pollution. Still, the oil industry, Republicans and some Democrats have pressed the EPA to delay the rule, citing higher costs.

Environmentalists hailed the proposal as potentially the most significant in President Barack Obama’s second term.

The so-called Tier 3 standards would reduce sulfur in gasoline by more than 60 percent and reduce nitrogen oxides by 80 percent, by expanding across the country a standard already in place in California. For states, the regulation would make it easier to comply with health-based standards for the main ingredient in smog and soot. For automakers, the regulation allows them to sell the same autos in all 50 states.

The Obama administration already has moved to clean up motor vehicles by adopting rules that will double fuel efficiency and putting in place the first standards to reduce the pollution from cars and trucks blamed for global warming.

“We know of no other air pollution control strategy that can achieve such substantial, cost-effective and immediate emission reductions,” said Bill Becker, executive director of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. Becker said the rule would reduce pollution equal to taking 33 million cars off the road.

But the head of American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, Charles Drevna, said in an interview Thursday that the refiners’ group was still unclear on the motives behind the agency’s regulation, since refining companies already have spent $10 billion to reduce sulfur by 90 percent. The additional cuts, while smaller, will cost just as much, Drevna said, and the energy needed for the additional refining actually could increase carbon pollution by 1 percent to 2 percent.

“I haven’t seen an EPA rule on fuels that has come out since 1995 that hasn’t said it would cost only a penny or two more,” Drevna said.

A study commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute estimated that lowering the sulfur in gasoline would add 6 cents to 9 cents a gallon to refiners’ manufacturing costs, an increase that likely would be passed on to consumers at the pump. The EPA estimate of less than 1 cent is also an additional manufacturing cost and likely to be passed on.

A senior administration official said Thursday that only 16 of 111 refineries would need to invest in major equipment to meet the new standards, which could be final by the end of this year. Of the remaining refineries, 29 already are meeting the standards because they are selling cleaner fuel in California or other countries, and 66 would have to make modifications.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the rule was still undergoing White House budget office review.

STATE GRANTS SECRET SERVICE VAST NEW POWERS

Soon will be able to enforce Obama gun laws without sheriffs’ help

author-image Jack Minor is a journalist and researcher who served in the United States Marine Corps under President Reagan. Also a former pastor, he has written hundreds of articles and been interviewed about his work on many TV and radio outlets.

SecretService

A bill is heading to Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper’s desk that Republican lawmakers say would give members of the Secret Service broad arrest powers in the state and could provide a framework for federal agents eventually to enforce gun restrictions.

“This is absolutely insane,” Rep. Lori Saine, R-Dacono, said. “In theory if a Secret Service agent is in a county where the sheriff has refused to enforce some of the recent unenforceable gun laws, the agent could arrest an individual if he believes the law has been broken.”

The idea actually aligns with an Obama agenda to create vast new restrictions and regulations on guns. WND has reported that hundreds of sheriffs nationwide, including many in Colorado, have said they cannot enforce federal restrictions that would violate the Second Amendment.

In Colorado, Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said he and many other county sheriffs “won’t bother” with several laws poised to go into effect in Colorado because they would be impossible to enforce.

One of the laws would require private sellers to do a background check on purchasers in private gun transaction, but the sheriffs wonder how to keep track of whether gun owners are meeting the new requirements.

Cooke said many new gun laws are “feel-good, knee-jerk reactions that are unenforceable” and would “give a false sense of security.”

Cooke said he and other sheriffs are considering filing a lawsuit to block the laws. And sheriffs in other parts of the nation agree, with more than 340 already banding together to promise to uphold the U.S. Constitution.

The Colorado Legislature also passed a bill putting a 15-round limit on ammunition magazines.

The new bill regarding the Secret Service, SB-13-013, passed on a nearly party line vote in the Democrat-controlled House and is now awaiting the governor’s signature. The bill grants members of the Secret Service arrest powers by considering them to be a peace officer, putting them on a par with state law-enforcement officials with respect to arrest authority.

The legislation does not only apply to agents guarding the president or other government officials but also to special agents, uniformed division officers, physical security technicians, physical security specialists and special officers of the United States Secret Service.

Republican lawmakers say that when they asked why the bill was needed they were given a series of conflicting answers.

Sen. Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud, said he was told the purpose of the bill was to make it easier to hold a person for mental health reasons.

“When I asked in committee why they need this I was told it was so we can exercise 72-hour mental holds on our own citizens,” Lundberg said.

“I found it curious that this was the big reason they thought they needed it. Currently a police officer, doctor, psychiatrists, registered nurses and other professionals just on the strength of their word can say they want a person taken against their will and put in a mental institution for up to three business days, meaning it could be even longer if it was over the weekend, for an evaluation as to whether they are mentally sane or a danger to themselves or others.”

Sen. Vicki Marble, R-Fort Collins, said despite the bill being sponsored by a fellow Republican, the 72-hour mental hold caught the attention of several Republicans in the Senate.

“This was one of the big flags for us in the bill,” Marble said. “It’s very suspicious because we have the separation of federal, state and even the local police services. Everyone has their own jurisdiction, and there is a special reason for keeping federal agents away.

“No federal authority should have the ability to detain somebody for 72 hours,” she said. “If there is a legitimate reason for doing so for someone who is mentally ill, that should come at the local level where people in the community know one another.”

Marble said the mental hold was the reason the bill slipped under the radar.

“The mental health hold was what they testified to in committee, and that was the big thing they didn’t want to get out, but it does give them the authority to put that hold on people.”

Lundberg said the big concern is that the bill essentially places members of the Secret Service on an equal footing with law-enforcement, without being constrained by jurisdictional issues.

“If you look at the bill, it says they can operate alongside of local police authorities and function as equals you might say,” he said. “However, when you read it carefully it basically gives them state police power so whatever power a regular policeman such as the state patrol, sheriff’s office or local police has they will have also.”

However, in debate on the House side, Saine said she was given a different reason for why legislators needed to pass the bill.

“Rep. Jared Wright was talking about how when he was in committee he asked several times why they needed it, and the reason given was if there was a motorcade and something happened during the procession the Secret Service needed the authority to arrest the perpetrators,” Saine said.

“Then we were told by the sponsor that’s not it, it’s because they were going to help our local law enforcement and sheriffs with check and wire fraud. However, check and wire fraud are not mentioned anywhere in the bill,” she said.

The bill states that the agents are automatically granted peace officer status when several conditions apply. For instance, if the agent is responding to a non-federal felony or misdemeanor being committed in their presence, he has the full authority to arrest any Colorado citizen.

The bill also gives the Secret Service agents wide discretion to arrest citizens based merely on probable cause that a non-federal felony or misdemeanor involving injury or threat of injury to a person or property has been or is being committed.

Lundberg said one of the problems with bills like this is they start out by giving broad authority to a government agency or entity, then they place language later in the bill that appears to restrict that authority in an attempt to provide cover for those expressing alarm about the language.

“Often in laws like this they will give broad authority in one section, then later in another section they will have wording which appears to restrict the authority,” he explained. “Unlike the state’s law enforcement, the Secret Service would not have any jurisdictional concerns. Under this bill they can go anywhere in the state of Colorado regardless of jurisdiction.”

But Wright, a former law-enforcement official, told Marble the Secret Service told him their current policies would prohibit them from arresting Colorado citizens under the bill’s provisions.

“They told Jared that making an arrest of a Colorado citizen for a misdemeanor crime unrelated to their own duties would actually violate their own guidelines,” Marble said. “So his question was why are we passing a law that violates their own internal policies.”

In Texas, a Democrat in the state legislature has proposed a bill that would allow the state to remove an elected sheriff for refusing to enforce the law. The bill defines law as including any rule, regulation, executive order, court order, statute or constitutional provision.

After the passage of a several gun control laws, which would among other things restrict magazine size and prohibit private sales between individuals without a background check, several sheriffs have said the laws are unenforceable and they will not enforce what they call unconstitutional laws.

Under Colorado law, the only individual with the authority to arrest a sheriff is the coroner.

Saine said she believes the bill is intended to be used as a foundation for later legislation that will surrender still greater control to federal officials.

“There’ve been so many explanations for the reasons they really need this bill passed. So what is it really?” Saine asked. “I believe it is intended to be used for setting up a framework so that at some other time they could expand it to possibly include being able to arrest a sheriff who is refusing to enforce unconstitutional laws. They would justify it by saying that since we’ve already given the Secret Service this ability, why not give them just one more?”

Lundberg said he agrees with Saine’s assessment that the bill could be used to expand federal power beyond what is stated in its language.

“It does give Secret Service powers in a broad sense, but I’m not sure the changes as stated will automatically change things significantly. It’s not a broad overreach, but it is an overreach. It’s one more step in the wrong direction.”

Lundberg said rather than expanding the ability of federal officials, state and local officials should be looking for opportunities to stand up against federal intervention in local affairs.

“I believe sheriffs can enforce their authority,” Lundberg said. “I also think we need to draw the line as clearly as we can and at every opportunity to say the states are in charge, not the federal government.”

WND has reported that sheriffs across the country are expressing concern that they cannot enforce a Washington mandate that clearly violates the Second Amendment.

A growing list of now more than 340 sheriffs who have reportedly vowed to uphold the Constitution against efforts to undermine Americans’ gun rights is being accumulated by the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.

As WND also reported, Cooke said he is getting political pressure to support the laws. He said he received an email chain pointing out that Senate Majority Leader John Morse, a Democrat, said if a salary bill were introduced, it would not be until late in the session, after the gun-control bills had been voted on.

Cooke said while he’s not willing to conclude the emails meet the legal definition of extortion, it was apparent that was the intent.

“When you look at the email, I don’t see how you could look at it any other way,” Cooke said. “It definitely implied the reason a pay raise bill was being held up was to punish us for our stance against these gun bills. Then they had another email suggesting if we were to support this bill, it would look better for us and maybe we can get a bill introduced for a raise.

“To me, that didn’t sit well at all. I’m not willing to say its extortion yet, but it just looked bad. We were not willing to compromise on our principles. We felt the bill was bad, and we were not going to support it.”

The sheriff’s pushback against the gun measures is significant because Democratic lawmakers are crafting similar bills in other states.

“The bills are a model for what they’ll try to push in Congress,” said Independence Institute research director and Denver University law professor Dave Kopel.

“Colorado is a pawn for the Obama-Biden plan,” he added.

In fact, Vice-President Joe Biden called undecided Democrats and pushed for passage of the bills. Obama is scheduled to visit the state in just a few days.

While some see the measures as models for other states, laws that preserve gun rights are gaining momentum.

The first of these was the Firearms Freedom Act passed in Montana, which says any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states.

Lawmakers in other states are now following suit.

Two senators in Ohio have introduced a bill which would prohibit firearms seizures, registration and bans in their state.

A bill in Kentucky would prohibit the state from enforcing new federal gun-control laws, if enacted.

Idaho’s House passed a bill that would criminalize enforcing any new federal laws that ban, restrict, confiscate or require registration of firearms or ammunition in violation of the state’s constitution.

A bill in Louisiana would prohibit the enforcement of federal restrictions regarding the ownership or possession of semi-automatic firearms.

A bill that would prohibit the enforcement of federal gun laws passed in the House Public Safety Committee in Oklahoma.

The Texas House is considering a measure to prevent state and local police from enforcing new federal gun-control measures.

A bill in Arizona would make it a felony for the federal government to enforce new laws or regulations on guns, accessories and ammunition owned or manufactured in the state.

And a bill in Michigan would exempt firearms and firearms accessories made and sold exclusively in Michigan from federal gun restrictions.

Some of the strongest language to that effect has come from Utah, where 28 of the state’s 29 elected sheriffs signed a letter to President Obama warning him not to send federal agents to start confiscating guns.

Similarly, in New Mexico in January, 30 of the state’s 33 county sheriffs paid a visit to the state house, reminding the governor and state congressmen that a sheriff’s job is to defend the Constitution, including the Second Amendment.

Congress deserves an answer” on huge ammo purchases

UPDATE: Pat Robertson On DHS Arms Build-Up: “Who Are They Going to Shoot, Us?”

Janet Napolitano. Image: Wikimedia Commons

Janet Napolitano has ignored a letter written by New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance calling for the Department of Homeland Security chief to attend a congressional briefing and provide an explanation as to why the DHS has committed to purchasing more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the last year.

Lance, who first promised to investigate the matter during a Tea Party event on March 15, sent a letter five days later noting how there was “growing public concern surrounding the Department’s procurement of ammunition.”

“He is not asking for Napolitano to testify but to give us a congressional briefing because Congress wasn’t aware of it. It deserves an answer,” Lance spokesman Todd Mitchell told the Daily Record.

Over a week after the letter was sent, Lance’s office has still not received a response, similar to how 15 other members of Congress were stonewalled by the DHS when they demanded to know if the huge bullet purchases were an attempt by the federal agency to restrict ammunition supplies.

Instead of a formal explanation, the federal agency released a glib statement to the media claiming the amount of ammunition purchased was not abnormal, that the bullets were bought in bulk “because it’s cheaper for the agency,” and that the rounds were for training purposes only.

However, the DHS has completely failed to address the fundamental flaw in their explanation. Most of the bullets purchased are hollow point rounds which are twice as expensive as full metal jacket bullets, rendering the claim the agency is buying in bulk to save money redundant.

As former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”

Earlier this week, a weapons manufacturer who supplies ammunition to the federal government told the nationally syndicated Savage Nation radio show that the ammo purchases were an attempt to “control the amount of market that’s available on the commercial market at any time,” by forcing manufacturers to hold back stock.

Ammunition is in short supply across the country, with police departments being forced to barter between themselves to meet demand while gun stores across America have resorted to bullet rationing.

Earlier this week, the DHS put out a solicitation asking for 360,000 more bullets to be delivered to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, the same destination for 240,000 hollow point rounds which were purchased only last month.

Last week, retired United States Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow sent a letter to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) warning that the ammo purchases represent “a bold threat of war by that agency (DHS), and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America.”

We encourage that you share your thoughts with this columnist, Bill McClellan, here: bmcclellan@post-dispatch.com

Bill McClellan: One last call to service – end military funeral honorsSt.Louis Post-Dispatch

. . . According to the program’s website, it is funded by the federal government and the Missouri National Guard Trust Fund.

Both the federal government and the state government are broke. So why are we providing military funeral honors for all veterans? It is a nice gesture we can’t afford.

Certainly, men and women killed in combat deserve full military honors. It’s a way for the country to say, “We honor the memory of those who died in our service.” These military honors — and the thought behind them — are intended to provide some solace for the families of the fallen.

But what about the guy who spends a couple of years in the military and then gets on with his life? Bear in mind that most veterans did nothing heroic. They served, and that’s laudable, but it hardly seems necessary to provide them all with military honors after they have died. In fact, it seems generous enough to provide veterans and their spouses with free space and headstones at a national cemetery.

Why not let the veterans organizations provide military honors at the funerals of their members? If a person gets out of the Marine Corps and wants to stay connected, he can join the Marine Corps League. I’m sure the 101st Airborne has an association. In a more general vein, we have the American Legion and the VFW.

Providing military honor funerals for their members would be a boon to these organizations. Membership would presumably climb, and veterans who want the military funerals could still get them.

Everybody knows government needs to cut costs.

This is exactly how you do it.

I eventually stopped blogging about the BATFE’s Fast and Furious operation because nothing seemed to change. Now the Office of Inspector General has released a report (PDF download), specifically about the role of the Department of Homeland Security. News reports have been summarizing the findings. Arizona’s ABC 15 reports:

“Despite the ATF’s lead role in the Fast and Furious case, a Homeland Security Investigations special agent (which falls under U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) participated in the investigation in Arizona, as a member of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force. The task force also included law enforcement officers from state, local and other federal agencies. According to the OIG report, the Homeland Security Investigations special agent participated in the gunwalking tactics despite being aware ‘those activities might violate (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) policy.’”

If you think this is a “smoking gun,” don’t get your hopes up. This is a setup for perfect deniability:

“‘However,’ the report continued, ‘he believed that his role was to cooperate with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and to coordinate enforcement activities with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Homeland Security Investigations.’ The agent documented his actions in his reports, but senior leaders never read the reports. Officials at ICE headquarters did not become aware of the tactics until weapons linked to the case were also found at the fatal shooting of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.”

So this is the world we live in. All you have to do to avoid real trouble is send reports on your activities to those above you and all they have to do to avoid trouble is just avoid reading those reports.

How did officials at ICE headquarters know that they should avoid reading those particular reports?

The OIG and others are going to pretend that question doesn’t exist and they are going to claim this was all a freak accident. Even while Holder continues to hide his role, and the role of others above him, from Congressional oversight, and Obama continues to rely on Executive privilege to hide his role, the people providing “oversight” are really providing inane excuses. And GOP congressmen are going along with it: calling the report “troubling.”

Holder should be removed from office NOW!

No, it’s not troubling; it’s treason. Several departments of the United States government had colluded to provide support for declared enemies of the United States. I’m no fan of “the war on drugs,” but the people involved in the Mexican drug cartels are real killers. Aiding those cartels in getting weapons should be a high crime.

This “we don’t know how to tie our own shoelaces” defense is not credible. Do ICE bureaucrats never read reports from field agents? Then why did they just happen to not read these specific reports? There is no way that is a coincidence.

The report mentions a “flawed methodology,” but where is the evidence of a flaw? Operation Fast and Furious was intended to walk guns over the border, and the operation did so. The “methodology” worked fine. What we need to ask about are motives.

Gun control means using both hands”

That saying isn’t just a clever retort to people who want the government to violate the Second Amendment of the Constitution. It is also a piece of wisdom about the need for all people who use firearms to be careful with them.

Chicago has some draconian “gun control” laws. It also has a record-breaking gun homicide rate. It also has something else: a gang of shooters who don’t know how to control their guns or don’t care about doing so. This week the gang terrorized a family while they were practicing songs for the church choir. They killed the family dog.

If you have been awake in the US during the last decade, causing the death of the family pet tells you who I am talking about. It is a signature act of violence that indicates this gang wears blue. From policebrutality.info:

“Six children from Chicago are going to remember this night as one of their most traumatizing experiences. The kids, aged 11 months to 13 years at the time, were rehearsing songs for the church choir with their grandmother Charlene Holly when eight armed officers burst through the door and started aiming guns at them, yelling ‘get on the ground!’ One of the cops even asked Charlene to show the 11-month-old’s hands to them at gunpoint. When she asked for the reason of the raid, she was handed a warrant for Sedgwick M. Reavers, the tenant of the apartment one floor above the Hollys. The warrant clearly stated ‘The second floor apartment located at 10640 S. Prairie Ave… the cops broke into the first floor apartment, cursing at the minors and telling them ‘This is what happens when your grandma sells crack.’

What brave heroes Chicago has—eight militarized raiders with body armor and automatic weapons against a grandma and six young children. Too bad they can’t read or didn’t bother to do so. The warrant targeted an apartment on the second floor, which allegedly belonged to a drug dealer. But the police raided the Holly residence on the first floor.

Tracking news sources, I suspect that this story might be derived mainly from the plaintiff’s lawsuit that they have now filed. So maybe the police will say that the children weren’t really practicing for choir. Maybe the cops will claim that they didn’t repeatedly call the children motherf…s, because any search on YouTube will show that cops never use foul language on the job. No, they’re all models of self-restraint and manners.

Sarcasm aside, it is telling that this lawsuit is considered not even worth mentioning in the national media. With the rare exception of an allegation of race-motivated abuse, our national news industry simply passes over the militarization of our police forces without a raised eyebrow. After all, reporters in the big networks will never be Wacoed to death, so why should they care what happens to poor people in inner cities. They’d prefer to glorify Rohm Emanuel. But if any private gun owner and NRA member had tried to deal with a drug dealer and accidentally held innocents at gun point, the media would be all over it.

More to the point, such a person would immediately lose his firearms. That’s what should have happened here. Armed men who can’t bother to read their own instructions should not be trusted with firearms.

These agents of the Chicago government can’t control their own guns.

Postscript: I’ve been accused of writing that the dog was ‘shot.” I guess “execution” can be taken that way, but I was just looking for another word for killed. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Since I never wrote that the dog was shot, I can’t take that back. I’ve now removed “executed’–though I still think it was a perfectly good description of a killing. I apologize for any misunderstanding that was caused. The dog was strangled. Since he wasn’t even in the room, this killing seems even more stupid than the typical police act of shooting the dog on sight. I don’t see why anyone would fail to be “fired up” by what happened.

This should really get the White House all rankled up.  As they are trying to fight violence by removing guns from the general public, one Arizona politician sees it the other way around.

Shaun McClusky, a former mayoral candidate in Tucson has launched a program to get shotguns into the hands of homeowners in crime-prone areas to help them protect themselves.  Under his program, qualified individuals would have to undergo a background check and complete the necessary training.  Then they would be given the funds to purchase a basic shotgun to use for self-defense.  (Remember Biden telling everyone to buy a shotgun?)

McClusky believes that citizens need to take stronger measures to protect themselves. He’s raised $12,000 for the program so far and hopes to be able to raise a lot more.  He told the local newspaper:

“We need to take back our city, and it needs to come back to the citizens and not the criminals.  Right now, the criminal element is winning.”

Some Tucson officials disagree with McClucky’s plan.  Steve Kozachik, a Tucson city council member commented about his plan, saying:

“To suggest that giving away … loaded shotguns in high-crime areas will make anybody safer is pure idiocy.  This is coming from a purported leader in the local Republican Party, the same group who last year auctioned off a Glock and a rifle as fundraisers. Now they’re giving them away in our community? They’re totally out of touch with the values of this city.”

Kozachik was a Republican who announced in January that he was switching to the Democratic Party because of the backlash he received over his gun buyback program.  Fellow Republicans claimed that gun buyback programs do little to remove illegal guns from the streets or deter crime.

He and other Democrats are clueless to the fact that some of the safest neighborhoods in the nation are those that have the highest per capita gun ownership such as Kennesaw, Georgia where gun ownership is a city requirement.

Just like a well-armed and trained nation is the best way avoid invasion, so is a well-armed and trained homeowner the best way to prevent a home invasion.  Hopefully, McClusky will be able to raise a lot more money and help arm more Tucson residents, allowing them to protect themselves.

New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced a bill in Congress on Friday to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which places term limits on the U.S. presidency.

BS ALERT WARNING WARNING!!!!!

The bill, which has been referred to committee, would allow Barack President Obama to become the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to seek a third term in office.

H.J. Res. 15 proposes “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.”

The bill is a reintroduction of H.J. Res. 17, which Serrano introduced in Congress in January 2011. It was referred to the House judiciary committee, but did not make it to a floor vote.

Repealing the 22nd Amendment has been a longtime goal of Serrano’s, regardless of the sitting president’s political party. Serrano proposed similar resolutions in 1997 and 1999, during  Bill Clinton’s administration, and in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007, during George W. Bush’s administration. He proposed the repeal again in 2009 after Obama took office.

None of his proposals has ever made it to a floor vote.

Democratic Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer also repeatedly proposed repealing the 22nd Amendment during both the Clinton and Bush administrations.

Current Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sponsored a bill to repeal the amendment in 1995.

The 22nd Amendment was passed by Congress in 1947 and ratified by 41 states by 1951. The last president before Roosevelt to prepare for a campaign for a third term was Woodrow Wilson, who pulled out of the 1920 nominating race to avoid deadlocking the Democratic convention in San Francisco.

North Korea’s hostile threats just empty rhetoric? U.S. B-52 bombers fly overhead

Analysts at odds over whether rockets could hit U.S.

  • A B-52 bomber is captured before joint training exercises between the U.S. and South Korea, March 2013. (U.S. Embassy, Seoul)A B-52 bomber is captured before joint training exercises between the U.S.
  •  North Korea cut a third telephone hotline to the South on Wednesday and doubled down on its threats against the United States, but analysts say the bellicose rhetoric is empty — that Pyongyang’s missiles cannot reach the U.S.

North Korea doesn’t have the capability to carry out this latest threat to attack U.S. bases in Hawaii, the U.S. mainland or Guam using long-range missiles,” said James Hardy, Asia-Pacific editor of IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly.

North Korea this week threatened to strike U.S. military bases in Asia and the U.S. homeland in response to overflights of South Korea by nuclear-capable U.S. B-52 strategic bombers. On Wednesday, Pyongyang cut the last military hotline it shared with South Korea, saying such arrangements aren’t necessary at a time when “a war may break out at any moment.” It was the latest turn in a heightening of tensions that started earlier this month with joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises and the imposition of U.N sanctions on the North to punish it for its illegal nuclear test last month.

North Korea’s military said Tuesday that it was placing its missile and artillery batteries at “full combat readiness,” meaning the units were “set to strike the bases of the U.S. imperialist forces of aggression on the U.S. mainland and in the Pacific including Hawaii and Guam.” In a note circulated to clients this week, Mr. Hardy said North Korea has short- and medium-range missiles that could strike South Korea, and “perhaps” reach Japan, including the island of Okinawa, home to a major U.S. military base.

“But we have not seen any evidence that it has long-range missiles that could strike the continental United States, Guam or Hawaii,” he said.

Associated Press

Some analysts have said North Korea’s launch of its Unha-3 rocket — which put a satellite in orbit in December — shows that the communist state can build a long-range ballistic missile that could reach Alaska or even the West Coast of the United States.

Mr. Hardy was skeptical. “The Unha-3 rocket that was fired in December uses ballistic missile technology, but is not a ballistic missile,” he said.

WTH?  IS HE TALKING ABOUT IT IS OR ISN’T!

When Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced this month that the U.S. is bolstering its Alaska-based missile-interceptor defense, he cited concern about another North Korean missile — the KN-08.

The KN-08 — a road-mobile, solid-fuel missile carried on a Chinese-built chassis — was publicly unveiled at a military parade in Pyongyang a year ago. It has not been tested, and some analysts believe the missiles shown in the parade were fakes.

But Adm. James A. Winnefeld Jr., vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters at the Pentagon this month that the KN-08 is a real threat.

“We believe the KN-08 probably does have the range to reach the United States,” he said, adding that more detailed U.S. intelligence about the missile is classified.

Mr. Hardy said this assessment is at odds with those expressed by most independent analysts.

“Either the United States knows something about this missile that means they are taking it seriously, or they are using its existence as an excuse to ramp up their Asia-Pacific facing [ballistic missile defense],” he said.

“Despite the rhetoric, North Korea is not in a position to wage a war with the United States or South Korea,” he said. Instead, “We would expect to see more asymmetric ‘provocations’ or activities such as last week’s cyber attack on South Korean media and banks or even the shelling of some of South Korea’s Yellow Sea islands.”

Retired military intelligence analyst John McCreary agreed, noting that North Korea’s top leadership is to meet in the next few days, according to official media.

“A politburo plenary would be a rich target for the allies and would never be held if North Korean leaders really anticipated a war,” he wrote in his daily e-letter NightWatch. “The entire national leadership could be decapitated in one strike.”This article is based in part on wire service reports.

Obama’s answer? Pretend none of it is happening and spend more of the taxpayer’s money on lavish vacations, parties, and world humiliation tours. Let them eat cake…

Author

The latest waste of taxpayer money, following close on the heels of the way over-hyped sequester, has been Obama’s so-called Charm Tour. It just hasn’t gotten through his thick skull and massive, personality disorder-driven ego that the American people are not buying his lies like they used to. They’re starting to connect the man to his mindless Marxism, their economic and social pain to his policies. They are finally, though probably way too late, realizing that the Fraud-in-the-White House is just that.

B. Hussein, however, insulated from the nastiness of reality as he is by the Ministry of Propaganda, tried to take the tour overseas. The result, as with all his incredibly inept and incompetent attempts at diplomacy, statesmanship, and foreign policy, has been another embarrassing failure. This one, though, has been worse than most.

In spite of his pandering to Muslims, especially those with radical, fundamentalist views, it’s coming out very publicly that they hate him even more than they did George Bush. He’s been trying to play both sides against the middle, straddling the fence, and it apparently has PO’d a whole lot of Muslims all over the globe. The demonstrations by “Palestinians” against him were far worse than the Israeli ones, and the Israelis left no doubt of their dislike for him and his duplicity. The “peaceful Palestinians” who B. Hussein, Hillary Clinton, and the Democrat Party of Latter Day Marxism constantly kiss up to, showed their respect for Obozo and his pandering by violating the phony ceasefire, and showering Israel with rockets while the Messiah was in the country, only a few miles away.

Iran, too, that bastion of Islamic love and tolerance, has stepped up its saber-rattling, and it appears that it’s just a matter of time – and not much of that – before a major, hot, bullets, bombs, missiles, and maybe nukes confrontation occurs. Four years of dithering by Obama and the State of Disarray Department under Hillary – and now, thanks to the craven Republicans in the Senate, the criminal/traitor John Kerry – have fueled the delusions of Iran’s leaders that they are all-powerful, unstoppable, and the rightful rulers of the coming global Caliphate. Obama’s brilliant, ever-so-well-crafted answer to the threat of the start of World War III is, “Oh, well, if someone wants to actually take action to stop them, wink, wink, nod, nod, we won’t interfere.” Amazing what an education at Columbia and Harvard will do for you.

Meanwhile, in the Far Out Far East, North Korea, led by the second runner-up in a Pillsbury Dough Boy look-alike contest, has called off the ceasefire that ended the Korean War, sixty years ago. Kim Jong Un, a second generation wacko, feels threatened by our Nobel Peace Prize“winning” Commander-in-Chief, and has mobilized his army and is threatening to launch nukes at us. This motivated our Department of Surrender to make plans to move missile defenses that were originally intended to protect NATO allies Poland and Czechoslovakia from attacks from Iran, to Alaska, to add to our protection against attacks from Asia. Asia, for those educated in government schools, is also where China is.

Will the Chinese feel threatened, too?

The Smartest Man in the Room just can’t figure out why the Russians don’t like him, since he unilaterally committed to reducing our nuclear arsenal, reneged on our promise to provide the missile defenses mentioned earlier, after the Russians objected, and he assured Putin that after he was re-elected he would sell us out even more. Russia and China have been mending fences, doing the “reset” to their relationship that Obozo and Hillary botched so completely. He just can’t get his skinny arms around the idea that they are turning their backs on a fellow Marxist. He thinks if he just bends over a little further, surely they will all see him for the Greatest World Leader that he is certain he is.

A few points to consider:

1) Muslims hate, and are obligated by the writings of Mohamed to kill, apostate Muslims such as B. Hussein. He can praise Islam to the skies and kiss their butts ‘til his lips are bruised, but until he returns to the practice of it, he is the Enemy;

2) To the genuine Marxists in Russia and China, American Marxists are cheap imitations, Stalin’s “useful idiots.” As for the Russians, it’s well known that Russians are exceptionally racist, particularly regarding blacks. Ask any African who studied in Russia. Obama is black, and will never be seen by Russians, especially lower-class Slavic policemen like Putin, as anything but inferior.

3) In the 1906s, American Marxists were terrified that black people would realize that their interests are the same as working whites. That is beginning to happen, more and more, and an exodus from the Democrat Plantation is gaining momentum.

Obama’s answer? Pretend none of it is happening and spend more of the taxpayer’s money on lavish vacations, parties, and world humiliation tours. Let them eat cake…
