Organization staging events to encourage higher taxes, spending

120427communistobama

The Communist Party USA, which just days ago boasted of its celebration over the election victory by Barack Obama, now is organizing teleconferences and promoting rallies in support of Obama’s plans to raise taxes – and to demand full government funding for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid “and other basic human needs.”

According to a statement from the communists, it is the “will of the voters” that Obama be allowed to “end … tax breaks for the wealthiest.” And the party said no spending cuts should be allowed because they would be borne by the “working class families, starting with children and youth and the most vulnerable.”

Facing the nation right now is the fiscal cliff which was set up by earlier decisions from the White House and Congress not to address longterm budget problems then. The scenario now is that without new legislation immediately on spending cuts, sought by Republicans, or more taxes, demanded by Democrats and the Communist Party USA, automatic changes will create both spending cuts and new tax liabilities.

Many Washington observers say, in fact, that’s a goal for Obama, in order to allow him to blame the GOP for the nation’s ills, and for him to work on tax increases amidst the backlash from Americans facing huge new liabilities.

“The national legislative struggle is the first challenge to continue the deep organizing that resulted in the election victory, in order to win priorities that benefit the 99 percent,” the party said in a statement.

It has organized a teleconference on the fight at 8 p.m. Eastern on Dec. 4, at 605-475-4850 (1053538#) with Art Perlo, chair of the Economics Commission CPUSA. And it is promoting that the AFL-CIO and “hundreds of organizations” will hold a Candlelight Campaign against Cuts on Dec. 10, all in support of the “Five Weeks to Protect Our Future.”

According to preliminary reports from Washington, Obama already has picked up on one of the suggestions from the Communist Party USA National Committee, which wrote a week ago that there needs to be an “enhanced version of the American Jobs Act … as part of a green New Deal to create millions of jobs for infrastructure, renewable energy, education and support to state and local government services.”

As part of his demands to Congress regarding a compromise to avoid the “fiscal cliff” Obama has proposed $50 billion in new stimulus spending, reports said. He also wants $1.6 trillion in new taxes and the authority to borrow what he pleases.

“The will of the voters is being put to immediate test as the so-called ‘fiscal cliff’ negotiations play out in Washington. Labor and the broad alliance that re-elected President Obama clearly supported an end to tax breaks for the wealthiest and keeping hands off Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other basic human needs,” the party statement said.

The communists noted that there already was a round of protests held two days after the election, “spearheaded by AFL-CIO and hundreds of organizations.”

The group continued, “Coming out of the election, the big fight is the crisis over the federal budget. Forces representing corporate power and the richest of the 1 percent are trying to achieve their long-held goals of looting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and cutting all government programs that help people or serve a public good.”

The national committee of the communist organization said, “The outcome of this battle will set the framework for the next four years and have impact on the lives of ordinary working people for decades to come. Only the mobilized working people can stop the corporate offensive and begin to meet our needs. The unity of the broad, inclusive and diverse alliance that won this year’s election victory should now be directed to reaching out in every community and workplace to bring the message to Congress in a strong and public way. We urge immediate participation in this critical struggle.”

The national committee said, “It is cruel and divisive to whip up hysteria around the so-called ‘fiscal cliff’ crisis. The calls to make benefit cuts to Social Security and Medicare go in the opposite direction of the mandate delivered by the majority of voters on November 6. The message of the election clearly was: tax the wealthy more and protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

It also said the expiration of the “Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy” should be only the starting point.

“We support calls for a financial transaction tax, for closing the capital gains loophole and increasing tax rates on millionaires to the level of the prosperous 1960s, and cutting the level of Pentagon spending in order to meet pressing domestic priorities that create jobs.”

WND reported only days ago that the CPUSA called Obama’s election results, “an enormous people’s victory.”

The comment was in a report to the Communist Party USA National Committee from the party’s chairman, Sam Webb.

“We meet on the heels of an enormous people’s victory. It was a long and bitterly contested battle in which the forces of inclusive democracy came out on top. The better angels of the American people spread their wings,” he wrote in the online report.

He said blacks, Hispanics and women worked together to defeat “racist … white people” and that it now is time for the Communist Party USA to work on the foundations established by Obama on issues regarding the environment, homosexual marriage and minorities to its potential.

“If anything the vote … is an insistent call for action on the most pressing problems facing the working class and people. That is the election’s mandate,” he wrote. “This was not a vote in favor of destroying social programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; or rolling back domestic spending; or resolving the budget crisis on the people’s backs.

“It was instead a vote for jobs, housing relief, health care, withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan, an end to U.S.-led wars in the Middle East, preservation of the social safety net, health care access, reproductive rights, and equal pay for women, infrastructure renewal (an issue that took on greater importance after megastorm Sandy), marriage equality, a larger commitment to public education, a tax system in which the wealthiest families and corporations pay a much larger share, reform of our punitive and anti-democratic immigration laws, a reduction in unconscionable inequality, a legislative and electoral system that isn’t awash with corporate money,” he wrote.

New healthcare regulation dump on states

Kevin Danielsen November 10, 2012 11:47 amKevin Danielsen November 10, 2012 11:47 am

As predicted, the Obama administration is working quickly to ram Obamacare into effect.  Now just days after the election, the White House Health and Human Services Department has issued new rules to be delivered by the Office of Management and Budget to the states.  Though the contents of those rules have not yet been released, it is likely to concern state health insurance plans. The National Journal reports:

After months of regulatory delays, the floodgates have apparently opened. The Health and Human Services Department delivered two major health reform rules to the Office of Management and Budget on Friday, the first in an anticipated stream of health regulation.

One of the most interesting parts about Obama’s first term was the fact that he basically did nothing for the last 2 years of it.  In essence, he only made Americans angry about his 100+ rounds of golf and executive privileges for delinquent Attorneys General.  Only now …now that he does not face the fear of reelection… is he actually implementing his promises:

Many sources close to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told National Journal that the administration had a number of important health rules ready to go but was holding them back until after the election to avoid a political backlash. Now that President Obama has been reelected, they predicted those rules would start emerging, and fast. The forecast is about right. We are now three days postelection.

The National Journal is saying that the ‘floodgates’ have opened, and saying that there will be a steady ‘stream of health regulation’ on the way, and it seems as if this is not going to let up any time soon.  The federal government is about to grasp the states by their spines, all thanks to the Obama reelection.

And so, it begins.

White House to close 1.6 million acres from oil shale development

Kevin Danielsen November 10, 2012 11:44 am

It hasn’t been a week, and already Americans are getting a very distinct ‘pit’ feeling that the US is about to change in a very fundamental way.  While those conservatives who just never made it to the polls on Tuesday did it for their own reasons, it’s likely that they may be regretting that decision.  In just another act of aggression against economic prosperity, the Obama administration is now poised to close some 1.6 million acres from shale oil development efforts.  The Hill reports:

The Interior Department on Friday issued a final plan to close 1.6 million acres of federal land in the West originally slated for oil shale development.

The proposed plan would fence off a majority of the initial blueprint laid out in the final days of the George W. Bush administration. It faces a 30-day protest period and a 60-day process to ensure it is consistent with local and state policies. After that, the department would render a decision for implementation.

Well, the Obama White House must have a really good reason for this, right?  Perhaps they want to install a missile silo, or maybe build a landing strip for Santa Clause… I’ll believe that.  The unbelievable part is what their reasons actually are:

Interior’s Bureau of Land Management cited environmental concerns for the proposed changes. Among other things, it excised lands with “wilderness characteristics” and areas that conflicted with sage grouse habitats.

You mean to tell me, that we are not going to reduce energy costs for already hurting Americans (not to mention the fact that even more are being laid off now) …because of ‘wilderness characteristics’ and sage grouse habitats?

Just unbelievable.

Gun retailers continue to report record-high sales since the re-election of President Obama, but Second Amendment advocates say any moves by the White House to restrict access to weapons ultimately is in the hands of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

Larry Pratt, executive director of the firearms lobbying group Gun Owners of America, told WND that because the House holds the purse strings, Republican members have the power to rein in any executive orders by Obama to control guns by blocking funding.

“We lost the presidential election, but if the Congress, in fact, has its own mind, then we can do some things with that,” said Pratt, who has directed the 300,000-member GOA for more than 30 years.

Meanwhile, gun-store owners across the nation, such as Jim and Joy Pruett of Jim Pruett’s Guns and Ammo in Houston, Texas, say sales have gone “through the roof” since Election Day.

“We haven’t been able to keep up with it,” Jim Pruett told the Houston Chronicle. “It’s beyond our wildest imagination.”

Pratt quipped that “nobody is taking down the picture of the president from their gun-store walls – the one with the caption ‘Salesman of the Year.’”

“It’s the one government stimulus that has worked,” Pratt told WND.

On Black Friday last week, a record-high 154,873 background check requests were made, a 20 percent increase over last year’s record of 129,166.

The Pruetts said that in October 2008, their sales were $230,000, far above the monthly average of $150,000. But in November 2008, sales skyrocketed to $550,000.

The couple doesn’t have a count yet for October and November of this year, but Jim Pruett predicts that the ratio is a 20-to-1 increase since Election Day, the Houston paper reported.

Like other gun owners nationwide, Pruett attributes the sales spike, in part, to Obama’s reference in October to reintroduction of an assault weapons ban.

Responding to a question from reporters after remaining mostly silent on the issue during his first term, Obama insisted weapons “that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets.”

He noted, however, that in his hometown of Chicago “there’s an awful lot of violence, and they’re not using AK-47s. They’re using cheap hand guns.”

Obama campaigned in 2008 on permanent reinstatement of the expired assault weapons ban but never followed through.

Gun owners also are worried because just hours after Obama’s re-election, the U.S. signaled its support for a U.N. committee’s call to renew debate over a draft international treaty to regulate the $70 billion global conventional arms trade.

U.N. delegates and gun control activists believe treaty talks broke down in July because Obama thought Republican opponent Mitt Romney might exploit the issue if the White House appeared to be in support of the pact.

Another gun retailer, Debbie Schultz of Schultz’s Sportsmen’s Stop in Kiski Township, Pa., said her customers are concerned not only that Obama’s re-election will bring stricter gun laws but that civil order in general will begin to deteriorate.

Larry Pratt

Schultz, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported, said they’re “worried about the direction of the country and want to be able to protect themselves if something would happen.”

National Rifle Association spokeswoman Jacqueline Otto told WND that her organization is not surprised by the spike in sales, as gun owners “are very informed voters and they have known that President Obama has opposed our Second Amendment rights his entire political career.”

“Gun sales are undoubtedly going up because gun owners know that at best President Obama wants to make guns and ammunition more expensive through increased taxes and regulation, and at worst he wants to make them totally illegal,” she said.

“Election Day may be over, but gun owners are continuing to make their voices heard by turning out to their local gun shops.”

U.N. treaty

Pratt told WND he doesn’t think the U.N. treaty will get anywhere with the Senate, which would need to ratify it.

“But what I do see is more below the radar, perhaps through executive order, telling gun stores not to sell guns that are perfectly legal to sell,” he said.

He foresees the possibility of executive orders by Obama that would bar the sale of any handgun over the caliber of .380 and any long gun that can accept a high capacity magazine.

“That would be a kind of European-style gun control,” he said, adding, “We’ve got a kind of European-style guy in the office of president.”

Pratt said his group has begun conversations with members of Congress to defund any initiatives Obama might put forward to curtail weapons.

An assault weapon ban, he said, also would not get by Congress.

“We’ve seen that he doesn’t mind ruling by executive orders,” Pratt said, “so it will fall heavily on the House whether they have the determination to simply say none of these funds may be used to carry out whatever it is that the president is trying to do.”

He said House Speaker John Boehner likely will need pressure from members of his Republican caucus, telling him, “We’re going to do it this way, and if you’re too afraid, just sit in the back of the bus for a while.”

Pratt commended Reps. Michele Bachman, R-Minn., and Steve King, R-Iowa, as “very tough” defenders of the Second Amendment “through a difficult period when there wasn’t anybody in leadership” other than Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who has pursued the Obama administration’s Fast and Furious gun-tracing scandal as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Pratt is placing some hope in members of the incoming Republican freshman class, including Stephen Stockman of Texas and Jackie Walorski of Indiana.

“We know personally they have a demonstrated history of confronting their party leadership when the leadership was off the reservation and successfully getting the leadership and the caucus back on the reservation,” Pratt said.

Stockman, who will represent Texas’s 36th District, confronted the GOP leadership on gun rights when he represented the state’s 9th Congressional District between 1995 and 1997, Pratt noted. Walorski, as a Republican member of the Indiana House of Representatives, confronted her governor on raising taxes.

“They both publicly opposed the leadership and got the leadership to back down,” Pratt said.

“We hope we have enough of the Stockman and Walorski types in the House that perhaps the caucus can no longer ignore their own platform, because there will be a public conscience there,” he said.

Believe government will use funds to spend more instead of cut deficit

While lawmakers in Washington warn of a “fiscal cliff” and some claim higher taxes are needed to rein in the federal deficit, a new poll shows roughly half of Americans think the talk is just a ruse to spend more money.

A Rasmussen Reports poll released today asked a sample of 1,000 likely voters, “If Congress and the president raise taxes to reduce the federal deficit, are they likely to use the new tax money for deficit reduction or would they spend it on new government programs?”

A plurality of likely voters – 48 percent – asserted the federal government will simply use new tax revenue to fund a bigger government. Only 38 percent disagreed, believing higher taxes would be used to drop the deficit.

The inherently suspicious answer remains an underlying current in a voter base that has recently come to favor higher taxes, but apparently would like lawmakers to do what they promise with the new funds.

Rasmussen polls from earlier this month show 57 percent of voters favor a tax increase on those earning more than $250,000 per year, while 68 percent of Americans would like to see Congress attack the deficit with a balanced mixture of less spending and more revenue.

Some, however, are clearly more suspicious of Washington’s tax motives than others.

According to the pollster, “Democrats, who typically display more faith than others in politics and government, are the most optimistic. Fifty-four percent of the voters in President Obama’s party believe new tax monies will go to deficit reduction. Sixty-nine percent of Republicans think the money will be used for new programs instead.”

Similarly, members of the two parties diverge in their opinion of the federal government in general. The same poll found the majority of Democrats (59 percent) hold a favorable view of Washington, while the overwhelming majority of Republicans (86 percent) and independent voters (73 percent) hold a negative view of the current government.

US to leave 10,000 troops in Afghanistan past 2014

US to leave 10,000 troops in Afghanistan past 2014

Some 10,000 US troops will remain in Afghanistan after NATO combat operations end at the end of 2014, US media reports said Sunday. The plan is in line with recommendations from General John Allen, commander of ISAF forces in Afghanistan.

The administration of President Barack Obama aims to keep around 10,000 US troops in Afghanistan after formal combat operations in that country end in 2014, The Wall Street Journal reported late Sunday.

Citing unnamed senior US officials, the newspaper said the plan was in line with recommendations presented by General John Allen, commander of US and international forces in Afghanistan, who has proposed a force between 6,000 and 15,000 US troops.

This force will conduct training and counterterrorism operations after the NATO mission in Afghanistan formally concludes at the end of 2014, the report said.

About 67,000 US troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan alongside 37,000 coalition troops and 337,000 local soldiers and police that make up the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

The United States and Afghanistan launched crucial talks on November 15 on the status of US forces remaining in Afghanistan after the NATO withdrawal of combat troops in 2014.

The US has stressed that it is not seeking permanent bases in Afghanistan. It is also considered likely to shy away from a security guarantee, which would require it to come to the nation’s assistance against aggressors.

That, however, is seen as one of the targets of Afghan negotiators.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is said to be willing to accept a US troop presence post-2014 as long as his key demands are met.

According to the Journal, his main request is that American forces come under the jurisdiction of Afghan courts.

However, the paper said, some defense analysts outside of the US government believe that the training and counterterrorism mission would require a much larger US presence — perhaps as many as 30,000 troops.

BEIJING –  China has successfully landed a fighter jet on its first aircraft carrier, which entered service two months ago, the country’s official news agency confirmed Sunday.

The Liaoning aircraft carrier underscores China’s ambitions to be a leading Asian naval power, but it is not expected to carry a full complement of planes or be ready for combat for some time.

Xinhua News Agency said the landing exercise marked the debut of the J-15 fighter jet, a carrier-based fighter-bomber developed by China from Russia’s Sukhoi Su-33.

The Defense Ministry’s website carried photos of the jet taking off from and landing on the carrier.

Citing unnamed naval sources, Xinhua said that the carrier platform and J-15 capabilities met all requirements and achieved “good compatibility.”

Xinhua says the J-15 is able to carry anti-ship, air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles and precision-guided bombs.

Since China’s Liaoning ship formally entered into service on Sept. 25, its crew members have completed more than 100 training and test programs, Xinhua said.

China bought the former Soviet navy’s unfinished carrier from Ukraine in 1998 and spent years refurbishing it.

Agency says presidential directive will not be made public

The National Security Agency says a special directive from Barack Obama on the organization’s reach into private Internet communications will not be made public.

The announcement comes in a letter from the NSA’s Pamela Phillips to the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which had filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the document.

“Because the document is under the control of the National Security Staff (NSS), this agency consulted with the NSS,” the letter explained. “The document was reviewed by the NSS as required by the FOIA and was determined by the NSS to be exempt from release pursuant to the fifth exemption of the FOIA. This exemption applies to inter-agency or intra-agency memoranda or letters which would not be available by law to a party in litigation with the agency, protecting confidential communications between the president and his advisers.”

Phillips also said the document is classified “because its disclosure could reasonable be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security.”

EPIC sought the information because it pertained to the National Security Agency’s “authority to invade civilian networks.”

The organization explained: “On Nov. 14, 2012, the Washington Post reported President Obama had signed Presidential Policy Directive 20 … in October. According to the Washington Post, the directive ‘enables the military to act more aggressively to thwart cyberattacks on the nation’s web of government and private computer networks.’ The text of the directive has not been made public.”

But the letter said the Post reported previous attempts by the president to expand the military’s cybersecurity authority had been rejected as posing “unacceptable risks” and potentially “harmful consequences.”

Further, EPIC wrote, the directive “may violate federal law that prohibits military deployment within the United States without congressional approval.”

The organization noted that it took similar action and continues to litigate the issue when President George W. Bush issued a directive in 2008, which defined the cybersecurity authority of the NSA.

EPIC said the older directive is equivalent to “secret law,” the very thing the FOIA seeks to prevent.

“Transparency in cybersecurity is crucial to the public’s ability to monitor the government’s national security efforts and ensure that federal agencies respect privacy rights and comply with their obligations under the Privacy Act,” EPIC wrote. “This FOIA request involves information on the National Security Agency’s authority to invade civilian Internet networks. Responsive documents will hold a great informative value regarding activities of the government that will have a significant public impact.

“There is a particular urgency for the public to obtain information about the NSA’s cybersecurity activities within the United States. As previously discussed, numerous bills are currently being considered by Congress to address U.S. cybersecurity policy. In order for meaningful public comment on these bills, as well as subsequent cybersecurity measures, the public must be aware of the authority that the president’s directive establishes,” it argued.

The potential is huge, the organization said.

“The NSA has an almost boundless capacity to intercept private communications. The need to establish effective oversight for government surveillance, including matters involving national security, is well-understood and a long-standing concern.”

The organization noted it also has sought public release of the technical arrangement between the NSA and Google that was adopted in 2010, because federal law prevents the agency, a part of the Department of Defense, from conducting operations within the U.S.

EPIC said today it would appeal the NSA’s determination.

Brave: Dr Maria Santos Gorrostieta has been found beaten to death at the side of a road. She defied Mexico’s powerful drug gangs and survived two assassination attempts, the first of which claimed the life of her husband

The woman mayor who was kidnapped and murdered by a Mexican drug gang pleaded with her attackers for her young daughter’s life, it emerged today.

Maria Santos Gorrostieta, who had already survived two assassination attempts, was driving the child to school at around 8.30am when she was ambushed by a car in the city of Morelia.

The 36-year-old was hauled from her vehicle and physically assaulted as horrified witnesses watched, according to newspaper El Universal.
They described how she begged for her child to be left alone and then appeared to get into her abductors’ car willingly.

The little girl was left wailing as her mother was driven away on Monday November 12.

For the next week, her frantic family waited by the phone for a ransom call that never came.
Gorrostieta’s body – stabbed, burned, battered and bound at wrist and ankle – would finally be found eight days on dumped by a roadside in San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township.

She left behind her daughter and two sons as well as her second husband Nereo Delgado Patinoran.

Hailed as a heroine of the 21st century, her death has prompted much soul-searching in a country ravaged by violence.

The decision to withdraw her security team in November last year – and her police escort in January – has come under particular scrutiny.
Gorrostieta was elected as mayor of Tiquicheo, a rural district in Michoacan, west of Mexico City, in 2008.

Almost immediately, she received threats. The first assassination attempt came in October 2009 when the car she was travelling in with her first husband Jose Sanchez came under fire from gunmen in the town of El Limone. The attack claimed his life but Gorrostieta lived.

She battled back from her injuries in the face of overwhelming tragedy, but she was not destined to know peace.

The next attempt on her life was just three months later, when an masked group carrying assault rifles ambushed her on the road between Michoacan and Guerreo state. The van she was traveling in was peppered by 30 bullets. Three hit her.

This time her wounds were more severe, leaving multiple scars and forcing her to wear a colostomy bag. She was left in constant pain.

But with unimaginable courage – and despite being a marked woman – she remained defiant to the very end.

When some doubted that she had been shot, Gorrostieta bared the scars that riddled her flesh and swore she would never give in.

In a statement to the public made at the time, the devout Catholic said: ‘At another stage in my life, perhaps I would have resigned from what I have, my position, my responsibilities as the leader of my Tiquicheo.

‘But today, no. It is not possible for me to surrender when I have three children , whom I have to educate by setting an example, and also because of the memory of the man of my life, the father of my three little ones, the one who was able to teach me the value of things and to fight for them.

‘Although he is no longer with us, he continues to be the light that guides my decisions.’

She added: ‘I struggle day to day to erase from my mind the images of the horror I lived, and that others who did not deserve or expect it also suffered.

‘I wanted to show them my wounded, mutilated, humiliated body, because I’m not ashamed of it, because it is the product of the great misfortunes that have scarred my life, that of my children and my family.’

‘Despite my own safety and that of my family, what occupies my mind is my responsibility towards my people, the children, the women, the elderly and the men who break their souls every day without rest to find a piece of bread for their children.

‘Freedom brings with it responsibilities and I don’t dare fall behind. My long road is not yet finished – the footprint that we leave behind in our country depends on the battle that we lose and the loyalty we put into it.’

After her ordeal she remarried and ran for a seat in Mexico’s Congress of the Union, but failed to gain the backing she needed.

She remarried and dropped out of the public eye.

But it was still almost inevitable that she would eventually pay for her bravery with her life

Mexico has been torn apart by murderous drug gangs since President Felipe Calderon launched his drug offensive in 2006.

More than 50,000 people have been killed in clashes between rival drug cartels and security forces and about two dozen mayors have been murdered.

The cartels have ruled the streets with fear for years, enforcing their authority with murders, bribery and torture.

But after decades of using force to combat the gangs, it is U.S. lawmakers who are the criminals’ biggest problem.

Legalisation of marijuana, as recently voted for by Colorado and Washington states, may wipe billions of dollars from the cartels’ annual profits.

And it has left politicians in Mexico with a tough question: How can they continue to justify spending money – and lives – fighting drug distribution to America when it will be legal in some states from next month?

Mexico presidential advisor Luis Videgaray said in a radio interview last week: ‘Obviously, we can’t handle a product that is illegal in Mexico, trying to stop its transfer to the United States, when in the United States, at least in part of the United States, it now has a different status’

From January to September last year, 12,903 people were killed in the country in drug-related crime, ranging from gang members, Mexican military and innocent victims caught up in gun battles.

The Mexican government claim they are winning the war on drugs, but few outside – or inside – the country believe that.

So corrupt are their police that they are rarely employed in combating the cartels. Instead, the country relies on its army to tackle the gangs while it attempts to rebuild its police forces.

Public support for the drug war continues to fall as the death toll rises and the cartels’ profits rise.

The business of trafficking drugs from Mexico into the U.S. is estimated to be a business worth between $13billion (£8billion) and $49billion (£30billion), with 90 per cent of all cocaine used in America originating from the country, according to a U.S. state report.

The U.S. Justice Department considers the cartels as America’s greatest organised crime threat, while conceding that it is U.S. dollars that fund the crime ravaging Mexico.

Yet Fast and  furious let in automatic weapons into Mexico to the drug lords with the help of our government! WTH was the US thinking?

In 2009 a military assessment predicted that if the drugs war continued for another 25 years, Mexico’s government was at serious risk of collapse and the conflict would spread into America.

A year earlier, the U.S. Joint Forces Command suggested a similar time-scale of collapse in Mexico and warned American intervention may be necessary due to the implications for homeland security.

The problem of strengthening the Mexico/U.S. border even prompted President Barack Obama to deploy 1,200 National Guard troops in 2010.

The two major cartels in Mexico are now the Sinaloa Cartel and Los Zetas.

The Sinaloa Cartel was formed when several gangs agreed to join forces in 2006 and is now led by Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.

He is Mexico’s most wanted drug trafficker and is believed to be worth $1billion. Forbes magazing even declared him the 55th most powerful man in the world in 2009.

Los Zetas were originally a mercenary outfit of former elite members of the Mexican army by the Gulf Cartel.

Consisting of Airmobile Special Forces Group and Amphibian Group of Special Forces members, they helped control parts of Mexico for the Gulf Cartel until its leader, Osiel Cardenas Guillen, was arrested.

Los Zetas took the opportunity to seize power for themselves and are now a 300-strong independent drugs and arms trafficking gang under the leadership of Heriberto Lazcano.

BRAVERY, LOSS AND SACRIFICE: THE LIFE OF DR MARIA GORROSTIETA

Gorrostieta was born in 1976 and graduated in medicine from a university in the city of Morelia.

She was elected mayor of Tiquicheo in 2008 and served until 2011. During that time she defected from the Institutional Revolutionary party to the left-wing Democratic Revolution party.

In January 2009 her husband Jose Sanchez Chavez was set upon by an armed group but escaped

In October that year Maria was attacked while she was with her husband as they drove along in El Limone. Jose died that day from gunshot wounds. Maria survived but was taken to a hospital in Morelia, the state capital.

On January 23, 2010, she was attacked by men with machine guns in Ciudad Altamirano Guerrero, on her way to an event at the City Hall. She was severely injured after being hit by three bullets, as well as receiving wounds in the crash after the shooting, and had to use a colostomy bag. She said her wounds left her in constant pain.

On Saturday November 17 her body was found by farm workers from San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township, who were heading to work. She was discovered on the property known as El Chupadero. The next day she was identified by members of her family.

Concludes ‘in his secret fury he stole 2012 presidential’ race

Bob Unruh joined WND in 2006 after nearly three decades with the Associated Press, as well as several Upper Midwest newspapers, where he covered everything from legislative battles and sports to tornadoes and homicidal survivalists. He is also a photographer whose scenic work has been used commercially.

A forensic profiler whose previous cases have included the Natalie Holloway disappearance and the O.J. Simpson double murder says Barack Obama is confessing to stealing the 2012 president election.

“Obama appears to unconsciously confess on multiple occasions that in his secret fury he stole the 2012 presidential election – continuing his attacks on our nation,” Andrew G. Hodges, M.D., told WND in an assessment of Obama.

“But really that is no different whatsoever than in 2008 becoming an illegal president who violated the Constitution. This knowledge comes from one undeniable fact: we have discovered a new unconscious mind that continually quick-reads situations and communicates about it – as Obama reveals.”

Hodges, who wrote “The Obama Confession: Secret Fear, Secret Fury,” previously deciphered the JonBenet Ramsey ransom note from the Boulder, Colo., murder case.

He uses a unique psycholinguistic technique he calls “ThoughtPrint Decoding” to “read between the lines” of people’s statements – called “the cutting-edge of forensic science” by expert investigators. He’s not exactly new to the field, already having identified killers by studying ransom notes, emails, letters and police interviews to spot secret confessions. He decoded O.J.’s “suicide note” to confirm Simpson had committed a double murder. He deciphered the JonBenet ransom note from Boulder, Colo., to identify the child’s killer. He decrypted letters from BTK to predict that he was about to kill again – the only profiler to do so. He studied statements by Joran van der Sloot and Deepak Kalpoe to tie them to the slaying of Holloway. He showed how Casey Anthony secretly confessed to killing her daughter in 200 letters written to a jail mate. He even decoded Bill Clinton’s Lewinsky comments.

In a new analysis for WND, Hodges explains that Obama not only confesses, but he suggests a solution for Americans.

“Obama’s deeper moral compass continues to provide guidance to America on how to combat his assaults. In his U.N. speech he repeatedly referred to courageous protesters. ‘They should give us hope… remind us that so long as we work for it justice will be done; that history is on our side; and that a rising tide of liberty will never be reversed.’ Repeatedly, he tells us ‘protest,’ ‘march for justice’ and we can become a rising tide. Citizens still have the power,” Hodges said.

That there are questions about the 2012 election has been reported numerous times by WND.

In Hodges’ assessment: “Following Obama’s presidential reelection impressive findings have emerged pointing to a fraudulent election. A brief summary reveals precincts in Ohio and Pennsylvania reported greater than 100 percent of registered voters turned out to vote. In 100 precincts in Ohio Obama got 99 percent of the votes. Pennsylvania illegally removed GOP poll inspectors from voting locations. Computer irregularities in Pennsylvania (and elsewhere) reverted to a default Obama vote no matter who the voter selected.”

He continued, “Florida prevented absentee ballots from being observed by neutral observers. Military ballots were systematically denied active-duty servicemen and women around the world.”

So he said all he had to do was sit back and wait for the confession.

“One thing is for certain – if Obama stole this election he would confess unconsciously. We now review that possibility from his own mind, listening for his all-seeing unconscious super intelligence to once more tell us how he truly sees himself deep down. As I described in my book, ‘The Obama Confession: Secret Fear, Secret Fury,’ Obama has repeatedly confessed to his misdeeds of his illegal presidency and sweeping attack on America for four years.”

He explains his observations:

“On election night after initial voting reports declared him the winner, Obama once more unconsciously pointed to a confession. Before his anxious and relieved supporters, Obama spoke of his pride in his daughters but commented, ‘But I will say this for now, one dog’s probably enough’ – on the surface referring back to promising his daughters a puppy after his 2008 victory,” Hodges said.

“But stay with his spontaneous right-brain image. Understand he could have chosen any matter on which to comment and any description but his brilliant unconscious mind which always speaks in a symbolic right-brain language – and carefully chooses its images – selected ‘one dog is enough.’

“Read his confession that America has just elected a dog of a president – and once was enough,” Hodges said.

“He suggests that he’s dogging it as president, faking it as an illegal president in a second way now with a stolen election. That he’s a real ‘dog’ for such deception. The image of a dog further suggests: a pet favored by the media and blind supporters who would not dare to explore his illegality by birth or unfair election; that he will dog or haunt America for another four years because a dog also bites especially a wounded one. (And Obama is deeply wounded beyond belief.) Once again Obama unconsciously points to his deceptive anger and indeed he has bitten/assaulted America in multiple ways, both covert and overt, and plans on more of the same.”

It was interesting, Hodges noted, that Time magazine also then referred to the “dog” image, using it extensively to declare, “It was a fitting end to a one-dog’s-enough sort of campaign.”

“The magazine writer suggests that he had picked up deep down on Obama’s unconscious confession,” Hodges said.

Further, during a Nov. 9 press conference, “Obama snapped at two senators who had criticized U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice for her erroneous declarations regarding the Benghazi attack. He challenged the senators to ‘come after me,’ not Rice,” Hodges said.

“This matches his hidden instructions in the U.N. speech that American citizens be prepared to protest unfair elections. In both his 2008 Fathers’ Day speech as a candidate and in his inaugural address he unconsciously instructed citizens to confront him as an illegal foreign-born candidate/ president,” Hodges said.

“Obama’s ideas continually reflect a preoccupation with unconscious guilt and a need to be caught and stopped. His behavior and decision-making around the Benghazi tragedy with obvious cover-up suggest more guilt – a need to be questioned, a secret confession of being a weak leader and a president who puts a U.S. ambassador’s life at risk,” said Hodges.

He said the newest messages shine new light on Obama’s July 13, 2012, statement that, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

“The symbolic unconscious message (with a deeper context of a potential vote scam) is not difficult to discern: ‘If I stay in business as president, it won’t be because of me. I’m not really the one who will bring about my reelection – others are going to make sure it happens,’” Hodges said. “His headline-grabbing comment has all the earmarks that he was warning America – attempting to shock everyone into grasping – that a secret plan was taking shape to guarantee his reelection.”

Hodges also cited Obama’s Sept. 25 address to the U.N., saying Obama was “confessing to his illegal presidency and an unfair election in 2008. In retrospect – now that evidence points to the real possibility of a fraudulent election – Obama suggests his brilliant always truthful super-intel was also looking ahead and confessing that plans were underway to steal the election.”

On Hodges’ website, Steven A. Egger, associate professor of criminology at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, has written that Hodges’ technique is “becoming the cutting edge of forensic science.”

“Dr. Hodges’ investigation of forensic documents in the Natalee Holloway case indicates that his ‘thoughtprint decoding method’ and ‘reading between the lines’ is, in fact, becoming a major contribution to law enforcement tools used by criminal investigators,” wrote Egger.

Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) — An attack on the power grid by terrorists — even ones armed with relatively simple weapons — is among the greatest threats to the reliability of the nation’s power system, the chairman of the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said.

“There are ways that a very few number of actors with very rudimentary equipment could take down large portions of our grid,” FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff said today at a Bloomberg Government breakfast in Washington. “I don’t think we have the level of physical security we need.”

The security of the power-network components such transformers “is an equal if not greater issue” than cybersecurity, Wellinghoff said.

The agency two months ago created an office to help reduce risks to the electric grid and natural-gas and oil facilities. A terrorist attack on the system could cost hundreds of billions of dollars and result in thousands of deaths, according to a 2007 report that was declassified and released by the National Academy of Sciences on Nov. 14.

The FERC, which regulates the interstate transport of electricity, natural gas and oil, this year also has ramped up its enforcement against energy-market manipulation. Wellinghoff predicted that a recent surge in filings against energy traders would plateau, and said he had not decided whether to consider another term as chairman when his current one expires next year.

‘Very Unsettling’

“A coordinated physical attack is a very, very unsettling thing to me,” Wellinghoff said. The FERC chairman said that about six weeks ago he visited a Pennsylvania plant where high- voltage transformers are made. “It was a very interesting and very eye-opening experience,” he said.

Transformers, which alter the voltage of electricity, are often custom built for utilities and can take 18 to 36 months to make, according to Wellinghoff. They are also inadequately protected, often surrounded only by chain-link fences, he said.

An attacker “could get 200 yards away with a .22 rifle and take the whole thing out,” Wellinghoff said. For a “couple hundred bucks” a utility could install metal sheeting to block the view of transformers, he said. “If you can’t see through the fence, you can’t figure out where to shoot anymore.”

The report released last week by the National Academy of Sciences called for the government to work with utilities to create a stockpile of transformers and other equipment that would be used in the event of an emergency. The Edison Electric Institute, a Washington-based industry group for publicly traded utilities, is leading a pilot program to install additional devices.

Utilities’ Efforts

Wellinghoff said utilities aren’t doing enough to protect the physical components of the grid. The FERC can work with power companies to make them aware of the security issues, develop strategies to lessen the risks and help them recover their costs, according to the agency’s chairman.

“If you do all those things then you might be able to get them to move,” Wellinghoff said. The FERC doesn’t currently have the authority to order utilities to take immediate grid- protection safety measures, he said.

The agency on Sept. 20 announced the creation of its Office of Energy Infrastructure Security, led by Joseph McClelland, FERC’s former director of reliability, to identify ways to lessen the risk of physical and cyber security threats. The unit will also work with other government agencies and the private sector, according to a statement.

Expiring Term

Wellinghoff has served on the commission since 2006 and has been chairman since 2009. His term as chairman expires at the end of June, and he said he hasn’t decided whether he will consider an additional one.

He has overseen the growth of the FERC’s enforcement office after Congress in 2005 granted the agency the authority to fine those who jeopardize the grid’s reliability up to $1 million per day per violation.

The FERC is currently investigating separate instances of alleged market manipulation by JPMorgan Chase & Co., Barclays Plc and Deutsche Bank AG, among other probes.

“We’re in full enforcement mode,” Wellinghoff said. “We’re not at war with anybody. We’re simply trying to ensure that these markets are operating in a full and fair manner.”

The FERC in March reached a record $245 million settlement with Constellation Energy Group Inc. over alleged energy trading violations in New York. The company didn’t admit any wrongdoing.

Proposed Penalties

Barclays has vowed to challenge the FERC’s proposal for a record $469.9 million in penalties related to alleged market manipulation in the western U.S. from late 2006 to 2008, and Deutsche Bank has disputed the agency’s proposed penalties of $1.6 million, saying the bank has done nothing wrong. The FERC on Nov. 14 suspended a JPMorgan unit’s energy-trading authority for providing inaccurate information to regulators, a penalty the bank says is unwarranted for what it called an inadvertent error.

Wellinghoff said he believes the fines proposed so far are adequate to deter traders from trying to game the markets. He also said the agency’s enforcement actions have probably “reached a plateau and will sort of stabilize out” now that the FERC’s enforcement office is well-staffed with about 200 people.

Psalm 666: The State Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want

A Psalm of Obama

(To be sung by children, K-12, every morning of their seven-day school week.)*

The State is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
It makes me lie down in federally owned pastures.
It leads me beside quiet waters in banned fishing areas.
It restores my soul through its control.
It guides me in the path of dependency for its namesake.
Even though our nation plunges into the valley of the shadow of debt,
I will fear no evil,
For Barack will be with me.
The Affordable Care Act and food stamps,
They comfort me.
You prepare a table of Michelle Obama approved foods before me in the presence of my Conservative and Libertarian enemies.
You anoint my head with hemp oil;
My government regulated 16-ounce cup overflows.
Surely mediocrity and an entitlement mentality will follow me
All the days of my life,
And I will dwell in a low-rent HUD home forever and ever.
Amen.

*Special Note: For union workers teaching their subjects this psalm in government schools, it is to be regarded as a psalm of exquisite beauty. The main subject is the watchful care that the Government extends over its dependents and the consequent faux assurance that you must make them feel that the State will supply all their needs. The leading thought—the essential idea—is to get gullible Americans to fully believe that Big Government will provide for them and that they will never be left to want. Make certain the dumb bastards get that message, okay?

 The Right Scoop

Al Sharpton believes that Republicans cutting back on government jobs is the reason unemployment in Black and Latino communities is stagnant because, as he puts it, Blacks are disproportionately in the public sector. So his reasoning is that we need bigger government to solve the problem of high Black and Latino unemployment.

Anyone insulted yet? Because the inference he’s making is that blacks don’t really stand a chance in the private sector on their own, that they need government jobs so they can get hired though a system of nepotism or something. Or else they need government coercion in the private sector through contracts and bailouts.

Listen:

One of the reasons that I think people do not understand that unemployment has gone down and in some cases black unemployment and Latino’s has remained stagnant, is over the last thirty two months Dr. Hutchinson, they’ve increased jobs and found jobs – unemployment has gone down in the private sector. What has not gone down is [unemployment] in the public sector and blacks in particular are disproportionately in the public sector.

One of the reasons those jobs have gone down or have remained down is one, the Republicans are cutting a lot of the agencies where we are the employees of government jobs – government employees, and a lot of those jobs go to governors and mayors who also have had cutbacks. So what we’ve got to do – and we addressed this to the President – is take on these governors and mayors as well as the private sector on why the private sector is getting all these contracts and bailouts and not hiring and correcting the disproportionate amount of their employment does not touch our community and have the President and them support us in that.

UPDATE, Nov. 15, 10:15AM EST: With still no sign of a rumored Russian Aerospace Defense Force report allegedly detailing CIA drone involvement in last weekend’s house explosion in suburban Indianapolis, officials on the ground are narrowing their probe into the mysterious blast. More signs, for now, point to a natural gas leak, according to the Associated Press. An attorney for one of the home owner’s at the epicenter of the blast claims his client’s pre-teen daughter had for weeks prior to the incident smelled a strange odor emanating outside the home. Still, the possibility remains that the whole thing could remain unsolved for some time to come. “Extensive gas explosions are not easy to put back together,” forensics consultant Jay A. Siegel told the AP. “Finding the pieces and putting them back together is a giant puzzle.”

The theories swirling around a mysterious, deadly explosion in Indianpolis over the weekend sound like the recipe for a futuristic Tom Clancy thriller or a dystopian video game.

“It was just mass chaos,” Dan Able, a southside Indianapolis resident, told the Indianapolis Star. “You can’t even imagine how bad it was.”

Able wasn’t the only one to witness the destruction from the mysterious explosion that officials are still struggling to explain. The horrific event left at least two dead, obliterated two homes, damaged 18 others, rendered another 27 temporarily uninhabitable, and briefly displaced some 200 residents.

At first, the explosion looked like the result of a freakish gas leak, like the one that leveled part of a California neighborhood two years ago. But the NTSB, which investigates pipeline problems in addition to airplane and train crashes, has found no evidence of a gas-line leak at the scene.

Now rumors are blazing across the Internet that the nighttime blast was in fact the work of a CIA Predator drone that for unclear reasons had been programmed to take out two Indianapolis-based US military resource and payroll offices. Only the drone’s missiles deviated from their flight courses, striking the homes off of Fieldfare Way, instead.

There’s just one catch: the details have been put forward by Sorcha Faal, an anonymous blogger known for spreading incendiary conspiracy-theory laden reports through the website whatdoesitmean.com. In this case, her source is a “chilling report” supposedly circulating inside the Kremlin.

“That’s a pretty far-fetched rumor,” Rita Burris, a spokesperson for the Indianapolis fire department, told me. “I haven’t heard that one, yet.”

But, Burris said, no clear explanation has yet emerged. With the gas leak theory now almost debunked, the incident still falls under unknown causes. With the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, she said she was able to dismiss one stereotypically Midwestern home-wrecking suspect, though: “We’ve ruled out the possibility of meth-lab [explosion].”

But the alleged Kremlin report, released by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces (VKO), tells another, fantastic story. It claims that Kosmos 2479, Russia’s missile early-warning geostationary satellite, detected a pair of Hellfire missiles fired from a MQ-1 Predator drone loitering over Indianapolis early Sunday morning. The “intended targets” were the US Army Resource Services (Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution System, or PPBES) and US Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) offices. After the missiles were triggered, “two distinct trajectories” were recorded, then “near simultaneously countermanded” by an airborne electronic tactical jamming system known as the AL/ALQ-99. By the time a USAF EA-6b Prowler, an electro-war aircraft that houses the AL/ALQ-99, had been scrambled from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in neighboring Ohio, “this CIA drone, apparently, deviated from its assigned flight track.”

Responders on the scene (via)

The report, according to the Toronto Star, goes on to note just how critical both service wings are to the US military establishment. Had it been successful, the strikes would’ve dealt a “critical blow” to American defense. DFAS pays out all DoD military and civilian personnel, “retirees and annuitants,” in addition to major DoD contractors and vendors. DFAS additionally supports various agencies – the Executive Office of the President, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Broadcasting Board of Governors – “in support of electronic government initiatives.” PPBES, for its part, oversees US Defense and Army-wide programs that are “critical, mandated, and/or sensitive,” such as “foreign currency fluctuation accounts [and] Individual Ready Reserve Mobilization of American Armed Forces.” Perhaps most notably, PPBES is tasked with evacuating civilians in the event of grave threats to the US.

As of this writing, I’ve been unable to get through to either PPBES or DFAS. PPBES Indianapolis’ number has been disconnected.

A to B (DFAS to explosion site) is a roughly half-hour drive

To be clear, I’m in no way suggesting that this unfortunate event was a case of domestic drones-gone-awry. One of the most gaping holes in the Kremlin’s report—if it’s real—is why were the Predator’s Hellfire missiles set on PPBES and DFAS? Time will tell, of course, and should more information come to light I’ll be updating this post. For now, though, the CIA-did-it wrap stinks of conspiratorial spittle spun out by some mouth-breathing basement-dweller bent on bringing down that socialist Kenyan commander-in-chief. I’ll stick with the gas leak.

Even still, we have no definitive cause for the burst, and no way, yet, to confirm the Russian report. “Anything right now is purely speculation,” Burris said. She added that the city is currently awaiting test results from utility and fire investigations.

If anything, though, the rumors raging around the fireball that consumed a sleeping community raise the spectre of hunter-killer drones stalking our skies, getting hacked, going haywire. And, most chillingly, dazed and terrified reports from those fortunate enough to have walked away unscathed from the blaze are not at all unlike those innocent civilians throughout the Middle East and Horn of Africa, where increasingly the buzz of drones up above crashes down, seemingly without warming, in shells of Hellfire.

“It was like a war zone,” Whitney Pflanzer, an area resident, told the Star. “It was silent after that. And it was dark and dusty, and I thought it was a nightmare — it was a nightmare.”

Millions suspected stolen under Medicaid plan to help disabled

A federal audit of one part of the Medicaid system has uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars in suspected fraud, including payments to caregivers to provide home-care services to the disabled even when they are hospitalized or in nursing homes.

“It would seem inconceivable – even for today’s bloated government – if it wasn’t laid out in a report … by the offending agency’s inspector general,” noted Judicial Watch, which reported on the systemic failure.

Judicial Watch said the issue centers on personal care services provided by the federal and state-funded health insurance Medicaid, which have been provided to the disabled since the Supreme Court ruled in the 1990s that such care is a civil right.

“The idea is to allow the sick, disabled and those with chronic or temporary conditions [to] stay home and, in turn, avoid sticking Uncle Sam with a hefty hospitalization bill,” Judicial Watch said.

“Instead, Medicaid’s personal care services program is rife with corruption that was first exposed more than five years ago and continues to be documented annually by the agency’s watchdog. The budget has ballooned to more than $12 billion a year, just to send what amounts to a nanny to provide supportive ‘nonmedical services’ like meal preparation, housework, help with bathing and getting dressed, transportation and even money management.”

The IG report on the troubling loss of federal taxpayer dollars said Obamacare provisions that already have kicked in have contributed to the increasing number of dollars in the program.

“The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 removed barriers to providing home and community-based services by allowing additional state plan amendment options, increasing states’ timeframes to elect and renew PCS as a care option, and streamlining processes for accessing home and community-based services,” the report said. “The ACA also provided additional funding for programs supporting home care goals, such as the Money Follows the Person demonstration and the Community First Choice Option programs.”

But the program has significant troubles, including error rates on documentation of costs as high as 40 percent in New Jersey, where more than $145 million in costs were questioned.

“Since 2009, seven of the eight completed audits have identified over $582 million in questioned costs,” the report said.

Also revealed was the fact that states don’t monitor the programs and payment circumstances, leading some caregivers to be able to collect payments even when the disabled person for whom they are supposed to be providing services is hospitalized or in a nursing home.

“[An] evaluation examining PCS in 20 states over a one-year period found that 18 percent of paid claims for Medicaid PCS in a universe totaling $724 million were inappropriate because the required qualifications for PCS attendants were undocumented,” the report said.

And,” it continued, “an audit examining paid PCS claims over a 30-month period in Nebraska identified 464 instances in which PCS providers billed and were improperly paid for PCS during the beneficiaries’ inpatient hospital stays.”

In many cases, neither the time frame for the provided service nor the attendant’s identification was included on a bill.

John Alemoh Momoh, owner and operator of Hopecare Service Inc., was sentenced to two years in jail and ordered to repay more than $656,000 after it was discovered he submitted claims inflating the number of hours and claiming payments for services not provided, the report said.

It noted that most fraud cases come to the attention of authorities through someone who knows the person committing the fraud because there are few checks and cross-checks to identify problems.

Among the steps that need to be taken, the report said, is the standardization of PCS attendant qualifications, improved billing monitors and a cut in the rules and regulations.

“For example, PCS attendants and agencies that commit fraud often bill for impossibly or improbably large volumes of services; for services that conflict with one another (e.g. a PCS attendant purports to provide many hours of services to multiple beneficiaries on the same dates); or for services that could not have been performed as claimed because of geographical distances between beneficiaries purportedly served by the same PCS attendant on the same day. If claims contained more specific details, including the exact dates of service and the identity of the PCS attendants, such irregular billings could be more easily and systematically discovered through claims analysis by state program integrity units,” the report said.

Judicial Watch noted that the billings for home care have risen 35 percent since 2005, and fraud also is on the rise.

Right now, under the system, “Medicaid recipients can hire practically anyone to help them and collect the money and providers undergo virtually no scrutiny.”

In fact, auditors list examples of Medicaid recipients hiring juveniles, relatives and girlfriends to provide services. One man was in jail while his girlfriend collected money from the government to supposedly provide him with home care,” the report said.

National Debt Interest Payments Dwarf Other Government Spending [CHART]

Taxpayers spend $220B per year paying off interest on the national debt

November 19, 2012

President Barack Obama pauses as he hosts a meeting on Nov. 16, 2012, in the Roosevelt Room of the White House with House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

In 2012, the U.S. will spend around $220 billion in net interest on its debt, according to the Congressional Budget Office — a figure that is expected to spiral ever higher in coming years.

Erskine Bowles, a co-chair of the president’s bipartisan deficit-reduction commission known as “Simpson-Bowles,” has called the nation’s compound interest burden one of the biggest long-term challenges facing the United States.

“We’ll be spending over $1 trillion a year on interest by 2020. That’s $1 trillion we can’t spend to educate our kids or to replace our badly worn-out infrastructure,” said Bowles at a recent forum hosted by IHS Global Insight. “What makes it doubly bad is that trillion will be spent principally in Asia, because that’s where our debt is.”

Given that most Americans’ financial dealings tend to be on a much smaller scale, those multi-billion-dollar totals can be enough to make a layperson’s eyes glaze over. Here is a comparison of how the nation’s interest spending compares to spending in other areas.

Sources: 2011 actual spending totals from President’s FY 2013 budget, Congressional Budget Office, USDA. All figures are for 2011 except Medicare, Medicaid, and interest spending, which are estimates for 2012.

What does it all mean? How daunting that $220 billion figure is depends on how you frame it. Compared to other government spending, it might seem like an exorbitant price to pay—at more than double annual federal outlays for education. Compared to interest spending, federal outlays on food stamps and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting are also dwarfed. And it’s one-third the size of the Defense Department‘s massive annual spending.

But viewed another way, it can seem much smaller, at around 6 percent of the total federal budget and 1.4 percent of GDP. Low interest rates are one key factor helping to keep the government’s interest burden low. Dean Baker, codirector of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, a Washington, D.C.-based economic think tank, pointed out in a blog post earlier this year that interest as a share of GDP is actually relatively low right now and is not projected to leap to unprecedented heights anytime soon.

“Interest rates have fallen through the floor,” says Baker. “What that means is at the moment our interest burden is pretty low.”

But low interest rates will eventually disappear as the economy recovers. And if investors should decide that U.S. debt is a risky investment, that would also drive interest rates up, making U.S. debt increasingly difficult to manage. Credit rating agency Moody’s earlier this year warned that it might downgrade the rating on U.S. debt if lawmakers do not find a way to avoid the coming fiscal cliff. A downgrade could go a long way toward driving up interest rates.

Whatever spurs growing interest rates, the prospect of $1 trillion in annual payments is daunting, says one expert.

“That’s a lot of money to be spending on something that doesn’t do anything for you,” says Marc Goldwein, senior policy director at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Still, he explains that it’s not time to panic just yet.

“We’re not at the point of no return, I think,” Goldwein says. “There are many policy paths that can get us back to sustainability and get our debt under control.”

Second Amendment: A House resolution, as futile as it may be, represents growing opposition to another administration bow to the U.N. encroachment on U.S. sovereignty at the expense of its laws and even our Constitution.

Treaties are ratified by a two-thirds majority of the Senate, and the final version of the U.N.’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) may likely be signed by this president and ratified by this Senate, especially if presented as a “sensible restriction” on international arms trafficking with no impact on our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

But some House members are not going to let it happen without a justified protest.

Before the House left for the Thanksgiving break, Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., unveiled a resolution to make the treaty not binding and let no federal funds implement it unless the Senate consents and Congress passes implementing legislation.

The resolution is co-sponsored by 76 other House members, including some Democrats.

“There is considerable cause for alarm regarding the U.N.’s renewed efforts to forge an Arms Trade Treaty that could trample the constitutional rights of Americans and seriously compromise our national security and the security of our allies, whom we will be less able to arm and less quick to defend due to the restrictions placed on us by the ATT,” Kelly said.

One of their key objections is with the requirement in the July draft of the treaty — which will be the starting point for final negotiations — for each member state to keep records on “end users,” or gun purchasers, for a minimum of 10 years.

Hence, Americans who purchase an imported firearm may have to be registered in the country of origin. Ammunition could also be tracked and logged the same way.

We have argued, as do Kelly and his colleagues, that even if it applied only to transfers of small arms between nations, would that mean restrictions on our ability to aid allies such as Israel and Taiwan?

Would we be forbidden from aiding resistance movements around the world rising up against the very dictators who support this treaty?

The treaty establishes a bizarre moral equivalence between countries that trade arms to defend freedom and those that do so to suppress and extinguish it.

In June, 150 members of Congress sent a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warning that the treaty is “likely to pose significant threats to our national security, foreign policy and economic interests as well as our constitutional rights.”

Michael Savage

Savage denounced “the crime families running America today” – namely, “the criminal enterprise called the federal government, plus the state governments and local city government” (FREE audio).

The host denounced the government’s relentless extortion of taxpayers, which resembles a Mafia shakedown: “The gang running the country has an estate tax of 35 percent, which they want to raise to 55 percent. This is an after-death tax,” explained Savage.

“Here’s the punch line,” he continued, “China and Russia, which are still communist countries, have no estate taxes. Everything the communists have tried and run away from, Obama and his communist cronies are dragging us into.”

Later in the week, Savage explained why polls leading up to the election had been so inaccurate (FREE audio): “There is a factor in science called the confounding variable. These are the variables that the researcher failed to control for or eliminate, which damage the validity of the experiment.

“My theory is that the illegal aliens in America, who pollsters placed in the category of ‘not likely voters’ or ‘not registered voters,’ were the ones who elected Obama,” he continued. “Just as Arthur Rothstein fixed the 1919 World Series, I believe the presidential election of 2012 was fixed.

“In actual fact, all the polls were probably correct,” Savage concluded, “except they didn’t account for the confounding variable of all those illegal immigrants voting, sometimes twice or three times.”
Rush Limbaugh

Marco Rubio is being Romneyed!” Limbaugh declared.

Rubio’s remarks about the age of the earth are being twisted by the media, but Limbaugh points out that Obama made an almost identical statement a few years ago, which was ignored (FREE audio).

“Some people, after I say this, are gonna wish I hadn’t,” Limbaugh also admitted this week, before stating bluntly: “Capitalism doesn’t work for everyone.”

He explained something that many American voters want to hear, and what few politicians have the courage to say: “Capitalism, by definition, does not work for everyone. But nothing else does, either. There is no system that works for everyone. Everyone is primarily responsible to themselves. … But you see, ladies and gentlemen, there’s a word that is applicable within any economic structure or system that is devised that is simply unacceptable in America today, and that is failure” (FREE audio).

Sean Hannity

Oliver North joined Hannity to talk about his new fiction book, “Heroes Proved.” It’s set in a future in which guns are banned and Christians are considered terrorists.

The story “starts out with a terror attack with an administration that lies about who did it – sound familiar?” laughed North, “I don’t have the gift of prophecy, but I certainly hope the rest of this doesn’t come through.”

He added that he hoped his book might serve as “a wake-up call” (FREE audio).

Aaron Klein

A resident of Israel, Klein broadcasted his latest program live as Hamas rockets threatened Tel Aviv. He served up the latest inside information about the war, corrected the media’s lies about the situation and offered suggestions about how Israel can win.

Klein also reported on rumors that the Ambassador to Libya was mixed up in gunrunning and talked to a politician who believes Hezbollah sleeper cells are already in the United States (FREE audio).

Mark Levin

To put it mildly, Levin wasn’t impressed by Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol’s call for tax hikes over the weekend.

“Stop talking like the lib you used to be,” Levin shouted, accusing Kristol of “giving aid and comfort to Obama’s attack on capitalism and successful people” (FREE audio).

Levin also blasted Democrats for playing the race card while trying to stifle any criticism of Susan Rice, who is rumored to be on the shortlist for secretary of State. James Clyburn and Marcia Fudge are among those calling Rice’s conservative critics “racists.” Levin turned the tables and called liberal attacks on Sarah Palin “misogynist” (FREE audio).

Laura Ingraham

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., came on the show accuse Harry Reid of obstructing any attempts to prevent the country from falling off the “fiscal cliff.”

Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, explained the tactics used by Hamas to maximize casualties, while Israel seeks to minimize them. Byron York of the Washington Examiner talked about the good news that came out of the recent election: the increase in Republican governors, who may in turn be able to lead the charge against Obamacare (FREE audio).

Glenn Beck

“While the current president may be one of the most astoundingly incompetent, radically left, Eurocentric and egomaniacal presidents America has ever had,” said Glenn Beck in his Thanksgiving message, “I still have hope, because he is not bigger than the people. And he’s certainly not bigger than God.”

He added: “Just like we understood the folly of Obama’s faithful followers placing all their hope in one human being, we have to understand the folly of pinning all our hope in beating that one human being in an election.”

It figures that a narcissist would want to make a physical impact on the landscape.

In a previous column regarding Obama’s tax and spend policies, I suggested that Barack Obama suffered from an “edifice complex,” suggesting there was a stark desire to leave a physical manifestation that would endure decades and be associated with Barack Obama.

I wrote:

What might be the next big thing on Obama’s radar (we know that a Russian bear on the prowl and Islamic extremism are certainly not)? How else could Barack Obama’s edifice complex manifest itself?

A trivia question might give us a clue. What do most Americans come across every day that is the legacy of one President? One more clue: think Dwight Eisenhower. Bingo! The highway system was created and promoted by Eisenhower and has outlasted his mortal self. Does Obama want to create a monument to his own Presidency, miles wide and sprawling across the nation for all of us to behold?

Now Ryan Lizza‘s column in the New Yorker regarding Obama’s second term plans support the view-Obama wants to create a lasting legacy to honor himself and will use his second term a9nd tens of billions of our tax dollars  to do so.

Lizza writes:

Several White House officials said that the issue that Obama seems most passionate about is infrastructure. (One insider Democrat joked that Obama’s passion for infrastructure is matched only by that of the Vice-President, who loves trains.) Obama wants to spend an extra hundred and fifty billion dollars on infrastructure during the next six years and reform the process by which projects are awarded, so that it’s more about merit than about patronage. In 2009, he was aggravated when he was told that none of the money from the stimulus would be spent on a signature project, a modern-day Hoover Dam or Interstate Highway System. A bold infrastructure package has all the hallmarks of a major Obama policy: it would create jobs, it has a government-reform component, and it could establish a legacy in the form of an upgraded power grid or a high-speed train, with which Obama might forever be associated.

Wonderful!  There is no room left on Mt. Rushmore and he has to wait to die before his image appears on currency. But as president he can use all the powers of the office to build a monument to himself.

But shouldn’t he  limit himself as most presidents do to presidential libraries funded by private donations-or are those just too small to assuage Obama’s overwhelming ego-an ego that has costs America so much already?
